Does anyone happen to know of any creative or otherwise uses for old Viewsat FTA receivers? Besides the obvious doorstop or paperweight, thank you.
Maybe boat anchors
Take all the guts out, find a mini itx motherboard that will fit it after modding the backside for power, ports etc, add a hard drive and load an operating systemâŠadd kodi and poof. new streamer! (I wish it were that easy!)
I never owned any Viewsat receivers.
I did own a Coolsat SD & a Coolsat HD receivers.
IIRC, the Coolsat SD was really good with a motorized KU dish while the HD wasnât.
There were a pretty good amount of legally obtained FTA channels at one time. I havenât paid attention to thatworld since we moved away from our 6+ acres 12 years ago.
Well now all I need to do is buy a boat!
Empty out the inside then use it as a case for something. Thatâs at least an idea I can make happen.
Coolsat and Viewsat were pretty much the same thing. Just different brand name.
First, it might be nice to have a brief description of FTA receivers. Are these the old Dish (or whatever brand) satellite receivers that were modded with black market cards that you had to update with codes all the time? I read about it, but never pulled the cord.
empty it out and hide your small valuables or drugs in it. I used to dry these up in Canada. multiple dishes would get u dish and bev on different satellite frequencies. Once the card system was change and the cards locked you could no longer program. Most boxes did not need a card because the full image was leaked. This also was the start of iptv because Dreamboxes were capable of modifying the code. I still have all my equipment and i am just waiting to go back to the 90âs/2000âs. HAHA
No cards in these. A little different. Google can tell you much more than I can.
I donât know if you remember this place, it was even before the Viewsat and Coolsat receiver days, but the first forum of this type I âvisitedâ was called DssNation.
nation, rookies, and many more as I was mod for a few as well but memory is shaky on those
Wow. Talk about memories! Would you happen to remember Rom10X?
still have a few rom 11 too used to do Direct as well. but things are much easier now
Yes indeed, lol⊠the Dtv H and the Hu, and the Dish blue and yellows. But was talking about the website rom10x.com ? It was a very popular place at one time.
yes that is another if also forget
Well, some of those receivers were set up for wildfeeds and could operate a motorized dish and some were strictly made for pirating Dish and Bell. I donât recall which brands did what.
You are correct. I have a hard time remembering all the details myself. But I know I enjoyed the hobby with the small dishes. Lots of testing and experimenting.
some people use them on the old C band dish, a lot of channels run in the clear, check ://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/North-America.html
No big old C band dish here, no boat that needs an achor, and no drugs to hide inside the case. Guess Iâm just SOL.
