Find it interesting to see the talk about NVIDEA SHIELD vs FIRE STICK vs generic android boxes.
Just get two or three devices and use them on the same TV. Sure you might need a NAS to share files being watched, but that’s not hard to do.
Locally we are using a Firestick 4k max ($45) newest, and Walmart ONN android 12 newest ($20). Sharing space on a cheap NAS ($30 router) with a USB drive ($20). The HDTV has lots of HDMI inputs and can use simple apps too.
Everything works well and is adaptable to failures. Plus have learned a lot about android and it’s dozens of variations.
I use 2 doubles. On a Roku TV paired with TiVo 4K. Another TV with Nvidia Shield Pro paired with Roku Express 4k plus.
I noticed Luke at Cord Cutters News had 79 apps activated on his Roku.
Using the Roku for all things that are verified apps leaves lots of room on the Android devices.
lol I have a roku tv,nvidia shield, fire stick, google chromecast, all on the lr set.I have an available hdmi slot left open on a switch for testing other devices. The main br set has a fire stick and onn box.Gotta have room to play ya know
Have 3 boxes on one of my Tv’s - nVidia Shield Pro, BuzzTV x5 & Onn. Like the BuzzTV box slightly over the Shield due to extra gig of RAM (it makes a difference imo). The native player has only worked with one update - otherwise a piece of dog poop!
Netgear nighthawk R8000 has usb3 and SMB2. Got it used in eBay for $30. You can set it up as a dumb device with no NAT on your existing network. Some learning curve required.
Wrong again, Sir Powerfader. I understand and recognize sarcasm. I also understand and recognize snide remarks meant only to belittle and bully others.
I’m CHILL. I just don’t like being bullied. This topic has merit for discussion. Put all the cute Class Clown animation that makes you happy in the discussion. Everybody sees you, now sit down and allow discussion, which is now unlikely.
tbqh I just use an SBC these days with a graphics card that is the costliest part.
On other TV’s I just have the fire stick, given it is the cheapest to be had for the quality, although I have seen some decent reviews of cheaper devices on Troypoint I would like to try out.
I had a look at the ONN, but sadly that is only available in the states, with prices too high, if available, anywhere else.
As regards multiple boxes, I do not see the point, given you can install most apps on other boxes, like an Android box or Nvidia without any problems.
