Usb not showing up on firestick

I have formatted my 512 gb usb using Rufus 3 times the way Troy explained in the video, but it’s still not showing up on my firestick. I have updated the firestick and running on the 6.2 operating system. Thanks for your help.

Firestick 4K with FireTV OS 6 will not recognize external memory very well. This was fixed in the 4K Max release. If I remember correctly, the old sticks only recognized, and could use up to 128GB memory. The drive must be formatted to Fat32.

I have the 4k, old version with a USB pretty much for installing more apps.
First, are you using the expanded memory for apps or strictly storing content?

Occasionally, I have run into the same problem, where the stick doesn’t recognize the apps on the USB drive. I have found that if I remove the drive & then plug it back in the missing apps show up.

The usb is formatted to FAT 32. I’ll continue reading responses here and trying everyone’s suggestions to see if it works. Thank you.

My goal is to partition the usb. It is brand new with nothing in it. Maybe, I’ll purchase and try a 256gb drive… does anyone want to buy my 516 gb 3.0 SanDisk? I bought it from Amazon.

just for grins try formatting it on your pc to ntfs and then insert in device and see what it says… just thinking here. :eyes:

I have mine partitioned 50-50 as per TP’s instructions.
To be honest, I never use the 50% dedicated to content. On the occasions that I’ve had to have content physically connected the FS, I found it more convenient to use a hub with a separate thumb drive with my files loaded on it.

VLC, MX, Kodi & ES File Explorer will find & play your shows.
An 8 Gb drive would easily hold all the apps that I have and I have a bunch of them.

Firestick has a 128gb external storage limit :pirate_flag::pirate_flag::pirate_flag:

Does that limit also apply to the firestick 4k max??? Thank you very much for the info.

No. On the Max there are those using terrabyte ssd. If you do an internet search there are instructions. Now I’ve never tried it but there are vids on youtube of ppl who have added a 2 TB drive. I believe they are using the ADB Shell commands. You’ll have to watch the vids to find out how.

Thank you guys, very much. I’m going to upgrade to a 4k max

Yeah right now amazon has the Max for $39.99 so excellent time to buy. For less than $50 you can have that and a OTG cable and usb drive. Great little setup! :v:

Could someone test if TIVIMATE will work with a USB stick on FIRE STICK 4K MAX? Since the USB can be set up correctly with the MAX as internal or external memory. In theory.

And if the max will recognize an NTFS USB stick.

It will not recognize ntfs, only Fat 32. I have a stick on my max but only use it for internal and apps. Even though I have TiviMate I never record anything so I can’t tell you how well it works in that configuration. As a side note I load TiviMate directly on the Max for best possible data transfer and OS speeds.
