Unusual storage issue w/Firestick

I have a Firestick 4k Max with otg and a 32gb sandisk flash drive. I’ve had this setup many times in the past without experiencing the current issue I’m facing. I formated the 32gb flash drive as internal storage. Despite it showing as external, it seemed to have been working as internal. It shows the usb indicator next to the apps that should be on the usb drive. But I believe it is saving the data files for Kodi 20.1 to the true internal memory and not the usb despite it showing it on the usb. So naturally now, I’m getting the error message from the firestick indicating low memory and needing to delete some of my apps. Am I wrong to assume that it should not be giving me this error as it should be using the usb for internal storage?

I am using about 3.425gb based on what the managed installed applications shows me. Which clearly is on the actual firestick internal memory. If add in some stored data for the apps.

Internal space shows 354mb of 5.34gb free and
External space shows 29.79gb of 30.15gb free.

Please see related screenshots of everything.

Looks like you didn’t do it right. It’s not recognizing the drive as internal.

Hhhmmmm…I’ve done this about 5 times in the past and everything seemed to be fine. Got a brand new one and gonna start from scratch with this and see.

Ok. I followed all instrucrions from the video guide to a “T” and now this is what I’m getting. Brand new hard drive, for the second time, formatted correctly to FAT32 and indicated as such in tgescreen shots. Sandisk 3.2 32gb flashdrive. Not sure what to do but to factoey reset my firestick and go from there.

This is also the same issue I’m having. I’ve formatted the drive just as I have in the past with no problems. I’ve reset to factory more than once and results are the same. I can clear cache in management settings but have found if I go into kodi cleaning tools I can gain lots of space easily.

I backed everything up, atarted fresh and am going to force everything onto an external drive. I’ll check out the Kodi cleaning tool. That might be helpful as well. Thanks for the suggestion. Kinda odd that this method isn’t working for all. But “where there’s a will, there’s a way.”

Try formatting to ntfs

Tried it. Doesn’t work.

okay. I tried this again. I may have gotten it to work. I will really know once I’m ready to move Kodi. Does anyone know, I didn’t catch if he said it, but will this transfer data for the apps also or just the apps themselves?

Sorry for off-topic but “Kodi cleaning tool”? Is it SD Maid or Defsquid or…?

I think they’re referring to a cleanup wizard.

Ah! Thank you, Miki. I’ll do some research. :face_with_monocle:

Actually, yes, both, In Kodi go to cleaning tools, select total cleanup.
And in DeafSquid, use the booster, I find that this helps along with clearing the cache on my fire stick .

I missed this additional info Chazz. Thank you!

I have 123 GB of external space and just 685 MB of 5.28 GB on my internal drive. None of my external space is being utilized on my USB drive, and it won’t let me transfer some of my apps over to it. This is baffling to me.
