Universal Android remotes

2 things I don’t mess with is trying to use a “Universal Remote” and External Storage. Buy a Box with enough storage and I’m good to go. I rarely if ever need to record I just need App space and Multiple KODI forks and the ONN 4K Pro fits the bill

I nearly fell off my lounger yesterday. Someone PM’d me and asked for help adding storage to the ONN Pro as they had used up the internal storage with Apps. :scream:

Some Onn box owners are burning storage with game apps and/or emulators - or using internal storage for dvr storage.

Question can remote be used on an iPhone as a universal remote for android TV because I’m having trouble finding a suitable and reliable Android TV remote that I can use for my phone because I’m quadriplegic and I can use a a remote sadly

There are some apps in the Android Play Store, which allows you to use your phone as a remote for Android TV and other devices. I’m sure Apple has some apps that will do that, also.

Sadly I have to use a Apple Device because of the Voice control that is integrated into their phone which allows me to control the phone a lot easier because if android had this same feature I will switch back in a heartbeat! But I searched and downloaded almost every universal Remote so far the only one that did but it stopped working and now they’re saying it wasn’t meant to work with Android TV SMH crazy dilemma when making tech Devices people often Forget about those like myself that would like to use tech but can’t use their hands to use remotes.

Fortunately Alexa integration into home devices is improving. I turned off the voice commands on my Soundbar that acted as a speaker and microphone as I kept getting responses. It does take a bit of setup and training the Alexa integration to understand you and for you to learn what commands work the best. I was able to turn all my stuff on and start TiViMate on the shield. I think there’s a thread on this somewhere. Whole home setups are getting better, but like everything in our hobby, it’s evolving over time. Please take care and be well.

Would be great if we get to a point where we could: “Alexa please Authorize Real Debrid and Trakt” :rofl:

So if the sofabaton doesn’t work for your needs I found another device that does the same thing without a actual Remote you can just use your phone whether it be android or iPhone. It’s called broadlink and you can find it on Amazon.

I’m still using the Harmony Companion All-in-One remote to control my Fire TV 2nd gen and Apple TV, but lately has not been reliable. I’ve been frustrated with the function to turn on the TV. Maybe it’s time to try one of the remotes suggested here. I just hate using multiple remotes. Would be nice to find one that can do voice search on both Fire TV and Apple TV.

Just wanted to follow back up with this thread. I recently purchased this remote in the link below. I have tried it on the shield and onn devices and it is completely functional. All keyboard, and settings etc. It’s also backlit, the buttons are a bit stiff but I think I can break em in lol.

@teehar …what are kb settings?
:thinking:

sorry for the confusion I was being lazy not wanting to type out keyboard, and settings lol for example some of the remotes I have tried will not work when you open up a search in downloader. this one does.

This is important. A few of the aftermarket remotes I’ve tried wouldn’t open the pop up keyboard. As an example, when you do a search on Smart Tube. So you have to have the original remote available to handle that task.
