Ugoos SK2 Dolby Atmos 8K Tv Box with Netflix support! Review preview

The SK2 doesn’t have the robust specs of the SK1 and only 32gbs of internal storage. Anytime I hear anyone complain about the lack of support for premium hd streaming services on stock android, I would remind them you can always load these hd streaming apps directly onto your smart tv.

Exactly what I was thinking as well. Seems to me this is a repeat of the Onn 4K Pro but with 1GB more RAM. When I first saw this I was thinking, “NVIDIA SHIELD replacement” but these specs don’t get me too excited.

Looks like they might be trying to compete with other fully certified boxes but the price point needs to be a little lower to go up against the Onn 4k box. imho

I guess they need a box for people who subscribe to all of the official streaming services but I’m disappointed that they just basically cloned the Rocktec GX1 and put it in an SK1 looking case.

Since they are a smaller company, they won’t have the scale to compete on price and should try to differentiate themselves like they did with their AOSP boxes, but I guess they have to fall in line to get the certifications they need.

This should have been called something else. When I got the email I thought it was a new high powered SK1 line device. GK1 maybe?!

As much as I am a big aficionado of Ugoos, the SK2 misses the mark. The Onn 4K Pro is a much better value.

Anth posted a link to a Reddit user in the Ugoos Telegram that mentioned the Ugoos sk2 has the same adaptive colour policy issues as the GK1.
You do get audio pass through on Kodi though.

Ugoos just came out with a 64 bit device, the AM9 with 64 gb internal storage and 3 3.0 usb connections. Maybe a review is in order?

How much RAM?

LPDDR4X 4GB

4gb of RAM. Also 1 gb LAN port and AI SR NPR for upgraded imaging.

Its not really an upgrade to the am8 as that is still faster. They should have named it something else, same as the sk2.

Even though the chip is 64bit I think the OS is still 32bit like their other boxes unfortunately. I hope I am wrong, but Ugoos has stated before about not being a market for 64bit OS, maybe things have changed.

While this one has 4Gb Ram there will be a Pro version released with 8GB later in the year.

You are 100% correct.
The Ugoos SK2, while running Android TV 12, utilizes a 32-bit operating system, even though it’s paired with a 64-bit capable CPU. This limitation stems from the operating system’s compatibility constraints, which are dictated by the SDK from the SoC (System on a Chip) manufacturer, Realtek.

I was just checking and watching some reviews on Youtube and the AM9 may very well have a 64bit OS. It is hard to tell with auto generated translations since I speak no Russian, but one guy made reference to Amlogic 64 bit libraries. It seems almost all reviews out now are in Russian.

This is a short with a teaser for a full review to follow that makes the claim.

The AM 9 is a 64bit OS.
Yes, the Ugoos AM9 runs a 64-bit operating system. Specifically, it is powered by the Amlogic S905X5 SoC and runs Android 11 with AOSP, according to a Reddit thread. The “AOSP” indicates it’s based on the Android Open Source Project. The Ugoos AM9 also supports 64-bit applications and can utilize the full 4GB of RAM available, unlike some older models that might have a 64-bit kernel but still primarily run 32-bit apps.

Specs off Ugoos website indicate the AM9 runs on Android 14 O/S. Hopefully, they’ve worked out any bugs. Personally, I prefer the Android 11 on my SK1, which is flawless.

Ya that confused me as well. The site I went to showed Android 11, so who knows. Tx @sim_bill
