Hey guys im selling my sk1, i just cant get use to the android aosp version, i like android/google tv better. Also the remote has been playing up. Too much money for a device with a poor remote. I know i could of got another remote but at the price of the thing it should work properly.
Im back with my shield for now which feels just as fast as the sk1. The picture quality on the shield is also much better with ai upscaling.
Now on the hunt for another box lol.
Your experience echos mine exactly. The remote sucks and forget trying to get help from Ugoos CS. They don’t have a button/function map and absolutely no full manual or even a site to get info. The remote is pathetic and even the button manager doesn’t work or does not have options you might actually use. My SK1 has page transition issues and frequently when changing channels in IPTV goes to a black screen with the new spinning coloured dots and then may load or kick you out to the home screen. Does not play 4K well. 420 10 bit with the CPU and GPU locked on max provides the most lifelike picture I could get, and it’s awesome. Yes it may have 8Gbs of RAM but apps like Kodi and Stremio, can only use up to 4GBs due to the 32 bit architecture. This is in no way a Shield replacement.
I am using the AM8 which has the same firmware as the SK1 and I have no complaints tbh.
It plays all colour formats and resolution correctly and all the apps I tested run without issues including Kodi and Tivimate.
I don’t use the Ai upscaling as my tv does great job of upscaling lower resolution content.
The ur01 remote works better than the ur02 remote but I like the four iR learning buttons on the ur02 remote which come in handy.
If you don’t like AOSP you could flash it the ATV.
You don’t need a 64bit device for streaming that’s why the majority of them are 32bit.
The shield is a 64bit gaming device with streaming capabilities.
Glad your Ugoos is working well for you. What anyone needs or doesn’t need is totally a personal experience depending on what they want. Hopefully Ugoos steps up their game as I, for one, will not consider their products in the future. CS is one aspect of a device that has nothing to do with specs but makes a huge impact on the customer experience. I have no doubt that the experience with Ugoos ymmv.
Have a great weekend @Avid08
I have not heard anyone mention issues with 4k content on the latest Ugoos devices.
You said your device doesn’t play 4k well. What issues did you encounter with 4k content?
Any 4K has a washed out colour. Unlike 1080 which is realistic, clear, sharp and a great picture all around. But it isn’t just colour issues. Take Tubi, for example. Install it and then open it. On my device it goes to black screen for several seconds. Try and change to another category and same thing. The black screen pops up all the time with the spinning coloured balls and then loads to the pic. It does this on a lot of apps like TiViMate and Stremio. Really beginning to wonder if I have a bad box. I have to jet. Talk later.
I have not encountered the colour issues that you have experienced.
I also don’t use the built in AFR and resolution matching.
I prefer to use the AFR in the app I am using because it works much better from my testing.
I also have Resolution set to best match which sets it to 2160p 60hz even though my Tv is a native 120hz panel.
I have Framebuffer size set to 2160 for a sharper image.
HDR policy Adaptive and DV Standard for TV player led.
The video picture settings and Ai I don’t use and only really work on low resolution content that I don’t use.
Same here @Miki and Tubi works perfect but I’m using TDUK’s ad free version. I do have some settings a little different than @Avid08 . I do use the AI upscaling and I just tried setting the buffer size to 2160 and I personally didn’t like it, doing that seemed to make navigating a little slower and it changed my home screen look as the widgets didn’t fit properly and I didn’t want to play with them so I just switched back. I guess it’s very possible you got a messed up box. I know a lot of users like myself have boxes that don’t like to be paused for more than 10 minutes or you’ll have to back out and restart the stream or it won’t resume properly. ![]()
My settings are almost identical to yours. I don’t do DV as my system is a Samsung and they use the HDR. Thanks for sharing it’s helpful to see what others do. Have a good weekend.
Hi @Miki I am sorry that you have had such a bad experience with your new box.
Particularly after the frustration of delivery, and excitement of getting a new device.
I have the AM8 and the Pro version, which are very similar in software and hardware. I have absolutely no such issues, that you have had.
Support could indeed be better. James has always responded to my queries. Could it be that their lack of current support, is because of the ongoing Chinese holidays?
Agreed the U01 remote is a let down, and whilst the UR02 is more versatile, it has had issues of ghosting.
Maybe you just have a bad box.
It would be interesting to see if others on Troypoint, with the SK1 could offer some thoughts.
Best wishes
Using the 1080 framebuffer just sets your ui to FHD 1080p instead of
UHD 2160p.
It should ideally be set to match your display resolution.
It does not effect video playback.
You also have to set the correct dpi for each framebuffer setting.
You can speed up navigation by lowering animations to 0.5 or 0.0
Good day @Avid08 Hope you are well. Quick question. As one who loves learning new settings, that I am unaware of, I was wondering if you’d explain just how one would go about setting “the correct dpi for each framebuffer setting.” I honestly have never seen a setting to modify the Dots Per Inch on any of my devices. I always assumed this was just a printer setting. Thanks in advance.
I am good thanks hope you are well to.
I don’t recall seeing the setting on any of my previous devices either.
I have only used the 2160 framebuffer to match my display and have dpi set to 520 and Font set to max which does affect how icons and font look on the ui and in apps. I did try different configurations but these were my preferred settings.
It’s a personal choice and something you would need to adjust to your own preference.
Similar to the size of the font you can change within the Tivimate ui.
I have animations set to 0.5 which does speed things up slightly.
I know where all the settings you mentioned are and how to configure them. It’s just the DPI I have never seen on any device. Can you walk me through where exactly you change this?
Aha I found it. Tx. This is new to me but seems only to affect the font and not the actual picture. Cool. Have a good day. Btw my font is set to about 30 on the font slider, although this is just a guess as there is no clear scale to be seen, I have the Display size, dpi set to 480. For me there is absolutely no difference in the home screen, UI or apps for mine. I tell ya I am getting more and more convinced that my SK1 is defective.
