I am not sure what is going on I have turned on Media streaming on my laptop and I have shared a folder and the Firestick in the VLC app finds the computer but doesn’t load the folder it just keeps saying loading does anybody know what is going on or how to fix this
barring its not a share permission and android/firesticks are loaded with that I would look at vlc settings ts,hls etc. and it could be a codec issue. Many varibles at play here.

Make sure you are on the same network. Also, if using a vpn try turning off to test out the issue.
To be honest, setting up your laptop to be a Plex server and loading the Plex app onto your Firestick would solve your issues both now & in the future. It would be more flexible & you wouldn’t have problems with having to match up various media formats.
Additionally, Plex allows you to easily stream your shows from remore locations as long as your computer & internet are on & your Firestick is signed on to the server on your laptop. So you don’t need to have both the laptop & FS on the same network.

Well I don’t like Plex and when I turned off the VPN it found my laptop so what could be the problem where I had to turn off the VPN for it to find my laptop
That’s great that you resolved your problem.
We’ve been using Plex for the past several years and it has turned out to be very handy for us both during power outages & for when we were away from home.
No I haven’t solved my problem because I don’t understand why it doesn’t find my laptop with my VPN on
The VPN changes your IP Address. So while your device has it’s own IP Address, because you are using a VPN you will be assigned the IP address from their server. So your app is trying to find it’s connection using the VPN IP address and can’t find what it’s looking for. Turn off your VPN and your IP Address is now the one it’s been looking for and can connect. Have a great night.

Miki is correct, if you’re using a VPN on either device, then they cannot ‘see’ each other.
So if you really want to use a VPN when using your FS/laptop, then you either have set up a VPN for your router or use Plex or Jellyfin or similar. With Plex or Jellyfin the FS doesn’t need to be on the same network so you can use a VPN on either or both devices.
Well I want to use my VPN so people can’t hack me and on my old laptop I was able to stream my media and have my VPN on
As I assume you are using WiFi. So your Windoze computer should communicate directly with the firestick and not be broadcasting to the net. Not entirely sure how far WiFi transmits. But as it is sending info directly to the firestick once it finds it, You should be safe.
