The cost of cable TV in the U.S. surged to an average of $147 per month in 2024, reflecting steady increases from major providers like Xfinity, Spectrum, and DIRECTV. This marks a sharp jump compared to past years, largely driven by multiple price hikes, hidden fees, and rising programming costs. For many households, bundling TV…

My Dish bill is $167 Netflix $18 and have a Prime account. Quite a bit for entertainment. Definitely need a change.

This is about Freedom in addition to saving money. I was sick of being held hostage by Direct tv. I live in a rural area and Satellite TV was my only option. I finally had enough 4 yrs ago and educated myself by watching Troy point and other easy to understand plain English videos on how to cut the cord. I helped my sister and friends too. The Thousands in savings is my money I don’t have to support a bunch of BS corp. suits. It feels like I’ve been set free. I truly respect and appreciate people out there like Troy looking out for others less intelligent and helping older folks (I’m 64) that don’t know how all this tech works. Thank you.

We (my dear wife) pays $200 a month for Spectrum cable TV and internet. They keep upping the “broadcast stations fee” to $30 a month and each box (we have 2) has gone up to $15 a month. I tried to get her to dump the boxes and use a Roku stick and the Spectrum app (both “free”) but she didn’t like that.

now you may not like to haggle, but I love to lol…Every 2 years I have to go through the same old song and dance with Spectrum. I simply ask for retention and if that doesn’t work I say I am going to cancel service. When you get an account specialist they will make some pretty sweet offers. I mean why should new customers get all the promo pricing? Loyalty has to count for something.

And did you know that if you cancel services for 30 days you are then considered a new customer?

Yeah, they used to do that, but not any more (at least not Spectrum where we are). They just say “Sorry to see you go. Bye”!

Yes, I know that if I cancel and then start up again after a month, everything resets to zero. But try telling that to the missus!!!

That’s great, but aren’t you still paying how much a month? $100.00- $125.00 $150.00.? Come over to the light and set your self free. If you worried you can’t figure it out, you’re wrong. I’m a 64 yr old non tech senior. It took me a few days of watching Curiosity cafe and Troy Pt. to figure it out. It is wonky at first but with you tube you can stop pause replay, etc. I use the ONN 4 K pro, $40.00 Walmart. TIVIMATE 30.00 one time sign up for service and then 10.00 a mo? IPTV service of your choice, mine cost $30. for 3 months. VPN is $3-4 a month So I’m paying about 25.00 a month for everything in the world, way more than I can watch and my wife get to watch her home Country in SE Europe and other International show’s she likes. I don’t have the superduper 2 million GB speed others have cause I live in the Country but my internet is fast enough that it isn’t an issue. cut the Cord Brother or sister and know you aren’t getting screwed anymore. Freedom!
Good Luck

The only thing that keeps me with my cable company is internet. Are there other ways tp get internet that is less costly?

Are you able to get either AT&T Fiber or Google Fiber in your area?. If so it’s better and much likely cheaper than Cable. Once I cut the cord on Spectrum I still had to use them for internet but when AT&T Fiber came into my area was finally able to ditch Spectrum for good

T-Mobile home Internet is maybe an option as well…

lol i think you misunderstood my post mate. I don’t subscribe to cable tv. I was talking about spectrum internet only. I pay $30 a month for 100 Mbps. Locked into a 3 year deal at that price.

I have been a cord cutter for years lol…Been using tivimate for several years, and just recently gave sparkle another try. It’s much improved with the app mode feature.

Living in Canada and 150Mbps fiber is $65/mth CDN tax in.

That is expensive for that speed.
I pay £25 $32 US for 910mb symmetrical fibre.
I user posted this on discord the other night. This is a service in Portugal that they use…

yes that is one thing the US and perhaps most of North America,we lag way behind the UK and other parts of the EU. There are still places that don’t have cable let alone fiber. And the prices for high speed internet are steep.

This is Canada. We pay some of the highest rates in the world for internet and have some of the worst infrastructure in the world to boot.

LOL YEAH I sure misunderstood your post.

Yep, the days of threatening them with cancellations are long gone. I’ve had Comcast for 22 years and used to get away with that. But since they’re the only cable company available, they don’t fall for it anymore… BTW, I thought monopolies were illegal in the US🤨
