Thank you. Yes, we have articles regarding this on our site as well. I haven’t seen anything with the box we are promoting (T95Z Plus) as having problems and it doesn’t come pre-rooted nor does it have a root switch.
I also want to make it perfectly clear that we warn people about this on our page where I have the video so this shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.
Important Security Note: It’s been proven that many of these cheap generic boxes have malware built into the system files that’s undetectable by most scanners. The malware supposedly “phones home” for who knows what reasons. The way that I look at this is that my Surfshark VPN is ALWAYS active when using the device so if there is something being “sent” back home it’s going to be encrypted so it can’t be read anyway. Also, regarding these reports of malware, I haven’t heard of any real-life stories on the terrible things that have happened to those who use them. Use these devices at your own risk and I would suggest not using it to access sensitive information through the Internet such as bank accounts, etc.

I could be wrong but I thought VPN hide your IP by encrypting data from your location to VPN server, after which it is unencrypted to final destination.
I agree with your warning about using these devices and add that you should create a new email for setting up the device
I’ve been using T95Z Plus “Cheap China” Boxes for more than 6 years and haven’t found the Boogeyman yet. IMO this Malware stuff on these boxes is completely overblown. Then again I’m not some Paranoid conspiracy theorist either.

A vpn is only as secure as a transport mechanisim. If a box is installed with a trojan(backdoor) then it “phones home” on that network un-detected. The vpn does not determine content but protects it.
Exactly. Good concise explanation. This is why I suggested, if one was worried about malware, that all attempted internet connections from the box in question be monitored or checked.
Just wondering what people would suggest on what model or type better Bluetooth remote on these devices. The one that comes with it works fine but the buttons not so smooth.

i have too many damn boxes!!! arrrrrgh! i need help…no more till the some more powerfull boxes come out ? i bought 2 t95z boxes a month ago when they were 30US and i havent even opened them…2 older onn boxes and 2 of the newer onn boxes…still unopened…an X88 Pro wich is a clone of the T95Z…still new in the box…i run a nvidia shield w a 500GB ssd in the living room and an old X96 Max (original version promoted by Troy 3yrs ago w a 500GB SSD ) in the bedroom w tivimate that records fantastically

!! Let’s start small…send me the 2 older Onn boxes…after 2 weeks if you still feel tense and edgy 
…take a few deep breaths… then send along the 2 t95z boxes…after 2 more weeks we will review your condition…OK…now let’s get the ball rolling…
