Just snagged one of these at $500 off! Anyone have one already? Curious what others have used for picture settings.
I have one over my fireplace. Great tv/picture. Android tv
You are going to love the 120 refresh rate when watching sports.
It is night and day vs standard 57-60Mhz.
I looked up your TCL Q-series tv. I found this to be very cool
“Motion Rate 480 with MEMC Frame Insertion on top of 120Hz native refresh rate is integrated as the motion technology of TCL QM850G. It’s able to deliver smooth motion images for our favorite action movies and sports while also can bring minimum input lag when we use this TV as our gaming monitor. To bring more immersive gaming experience, TCL QM850G already supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), FreeSync and G-Sync on top of its 120Hz native refresh rate.”
TCL’s 2023 Top 4K LED TV Series
Lotsa good stuff with that TV. (options).
Gaming should be exceptional.
Congrats!
Thanks, I’m hoping so too! I was only able to unbox it and do a basic setup yesterday. Haven’t fine tuned the motion settings yet. There are a few separate options and I am definitely going to test every combination. If there’s even a slightly noticable soap opera effect I’ll hate it though lol. The picture is stunning though! There’s so much fine tuning available on it. I watched the beginning of Star Wars Episode VII last night with the dark scene of the storm troopers with the laser blasts and explosions. It was a completely new experience with that level of contrast!
Also just noticed you linked an article the to 2023 model. I got the 2024 model that has even more improvements. The 2023 was criticized a little bit for the motion handling.
Watched the last episode of the Acolyte. Pretty cool I’ll leave it at that.
Thanks for the update. That was helpful.
In case anyone in the future considers getting this TV or a different size of the same model, here’s some feedback so far.
The upscaling on my Shield Pro is better than the upscaling on the TV. Not noticeable enough that you’d have to go out and buy one of you don’t have one but I just thought I’d point that out. However, I was getting very frustrated trying to get the video mode to switch on the Shield to enable Dolby Vision. I finally figured out that you have to go into the TV settings and make sure that it’s set to standard refresh rate mode and all the motion smoothing options are off before you can switch the video mode on the Shield and enable Dolby Vision.
This TV has an amazing picture once you get it dialed in. The contrast is near OLED quality with very minimal blooming. You have to be looking for it to really notice. The color and brightness are incredible! I spent an hour just captivated by HDR landscape videos on YouTube lol.
As for the motion handling, it’s still an LCD TV. I am super sensitive to the soap opera effect (SOE), so I keep most of the motion enhancement options off. You can adjust blur reduction and judder reduction each from 0 to 10 for different levels of intensity. For most people, setting these to levels 1 or 2 would probably make a slight improvement in motion handling without being too “unnatural” looking. However, I just use the “Clear LED Motion” feature which uses the black frame insertion method to reduce blur. This does make the screen a lot dimmer, but I turned the brightness all the way up to counter this and it still was plenty bright for my room. There is also a “Dynamic Acceleration” option that will increase the screen refresh rate. Again, make sure these are off before you set your video mode on your streaming device and then turn them on to see if they work without switching the video mode back.
Overall, extremely happy with this purchase for the price point. Would recommend.
Good day @Jayhawks659. Have you gone into the Shield settings>Display & sound>Advanced sound settings>audio Output and make sure here that Dolby audio processing is enabled, I also enable Stereo upmix, in this same spot> at the top for Audio Output> I use the HDMI option instead of the “Auto”. I also check >Available formats and make sure that all the Dolby options are enabled. I suspect you have already looked at this but just in case you haven’t. I do have my Volume control set to IR(Samsung SOUND BAR) and HDMI-CEC Enable turned on.
Yes, the issue isn’t with the output from the Shield. I get sound through the TV speakers just fine. It’s the output from HDMI 4 to the AVR that I’m trying to figure out. I was hoping with the Shield connected to HDMI 1 and the AVR connected to HDMI 4 that the audio would passthrough. However, I have HDMI 4 connected to the “streaming box” input on the AVR and not the typical HDMI output port. I think I did try to connect the AVR output port to HDMI 4 on the TV and it still didn’t work. My assumption is that if the AVR is not eARC compatible then it won’t work.
Not a big deal. It just means that with the splitter connected I lose the CEC functionality and have to use the IR function of the Shield remote. Have to make sure it’s pointed at all 3 devices at the same time to have them turn on and off in tandem.
Guess it’s time for an AVR upgrade
Does your unit have an HDMI in? I have my shield in to the soundbar then use the eARC to the TV. No other connections needed. But I have never tried an AVR just my soundbar. So I can’t test out things to help. Sorry my friend. Oops reread your last post so looks like you already tried these options and looks like your AVR doesn’t have an eARC port.
Edited my post above to take out the part about eARC. Turns out my AVR does need to be compatible. However, there are some HDMI splitters on Amazon that will work with eARC to extract the audio so you can plug into an older non-compatible AVR. Some of them maintain CEC functionality but not all.
Okay… Turned on game mode for 1080p @ 120Hz to watch the Indycar race. Wow!!! What a difference in motion handling! No blur at all.
P.S. Had to turn off auto frame rate in Tivimate for this to work and changed the video mode on the Shield.
NFL should be AMAZING.
What time do you want us all to come over opening day?
Right!? I almost wish I had a Sunday Ticket subscription to be able to watch in a higher resolution as well. I’m still wanting to find an IPTV provider that offers 1080p @ 60Hz.
And yes, the TV did go back up to $2,000 today. Glad I took advantage of the deal while it was available!
