Surfshark Earns #1 VPN Ranking by TROYPOINT

Surfshark VPN is now the #1 ranked VPN by TROYPOINT. This will come as no surprise to those of you who’ve been using Surfshark for any amount of time. Back in May of 2022 I moved Surfshark from the #4 position to #2. I hesitated moving them to #1 as I wanted more time to…

Hi.

I am now considering Surfshark as a vpn. But i have read that it sometimes disconnects, thus leaving the user unaware.

Could anyone using Surfshark, provide me with a quick, pros and cons of this service.

I have googled many reviews by professional reviewers, but they are so varied in their findings. What better way to find out, by asking users themselves.

And yes, i have used the search function, but cannot locate this particular subject.

Many thanks.

Every VPN has the unfortunate occurrence to disconnect. Trust me…I’ve tried almost all of them. I did have issues with SS a couple years ago with it disconnecting due to detecting another VPN. They’ve really updated it and it’s run smoothly on a couple of our boxes for a few months without a hiccup. Been very good for us. I would recommend it for sure

Very many thanks for your thoughts.

Used the promo here for SS but in the end Express has worked better connecting, speedwise and been more reliable in my situation.

Thanks

I’ve had ProtonVPN for 3yrs and it’s never disconnected on it’s own on any device I have it installed on.

I’ve not tried SS, but I have been an IPV user for several years, based upon TP’s endorsement, and I’ll echo what Miki said about Proton. Even the free version of Proton is much more reliable than IPV. I suspect the same is true about SS.

Thanks Miki. I will take a look at that.

I had a look at the free version, but it doesnt have UK servers, which i would use.

I’ll have a look at their paid version.

Surfshark is a good and pretty fast VPN with a plethora of features. They have gone through many ups and downs, and issues that they have mostly solved through updates. Currently, it seems pretty dang stable. But it was when I first got it too, and then had some issues they eventually corrected. Some of the problems may have been attributed to the influx of new subscribers from Troy and others recommending it. I think they just got too big, too fast. Still a solid VPN, but may take extra, sometimes pretty constant fiddling with the settings, location and protocol to get you and keep you dialed in.

I run it on two boxes all the time and it just keeps going. My Express is coming up and due to price, not going to renew. I have others downloaded but SS & Proton are my strong ones at this point

Agreed just too bare bones for my taste with little to no options on Android TV. PASS.

That has been my sole issue since I got it. Absolutely tons of options on all devices except streamers. But besides that you can choose servers and locations and it just works flawlessly and for me the speed up tech always works and I get full speed + from my ISP. Never any problems.

Decisions like this can be maddening but free trials help. I’m not one of the veterans as I recently signed up for my first VPN after much research and I chose Surfshark. It’s working just fine for me. When I turn my device on each morning SS connects and a pop up confirms that for me. Of course, SS has a kill switch you can enable and it works because when it hiccuped (just once), my online connection was shut off briefly until it reconnected. I have it on my phone too. All in all I’m happy with it so far with no complaints.

Thank you all for your very helpful replies. I think i have enough information now.

I’ve been using IP Vanish, happily, for 3-4 years. But over the last 6 months or so we have had issues with being unable to connect to the VPN. I still have several months left on my IPV account but out of frustration I went ahead and signed up with Surf Shark. I like that they actually have servers close to my home and I really like the Kill Switch option as well as the notification when it is connected. I do still use the "green dot since I am so tuned it to the blinking square in my upper right corner. Over the last month I’ve only had one issue where SS lost communication. I immediately shifted over to another streaming box (I have 3 devices on the same TV) and everything was good. So I’m not quite sure what was going on. Other than that it has performed perfectly.

As far as this question, if you have the Kill Switch option set up then that will stop any feed coming in to your system.
