Hey Troy, if you’re out there it sure would be nice to hear your take on this discussion.
Surfshark is one of the top VPNs on the market and it comes loaded with tons of useful features.
While the service will work just fine right out of the box, with just a few tweaks you can optimize it to bolster your privacy and security and enhance your user experience.
I agree with you @itzme, Surfshark is a great VPN and i use it too. My original question and further discussion is about the functionality of the app. How certain settings, using the Bypass feature do and don’t effect your protection. I thought it was a discussion worth having. ![]()
After you toggle the Bypass on or off you need to disconnect the Surfshark VPN then toggle it back on before it takes effect. Not sure if you did that before running the test. I have had Surfshark show on but not actually work a few times myself. Wondering if I go the router method would it be 100 percent effective in killing internet if Surfshark fails while using internet. I use a privacy dot as well but if both fail and they can… Anyone know if you put on router will it be 100% effective in protecting IP and DNS you set?
I’ve had nothing but success with SS Killswitch
I use Microsoft Outlook as my email client. I use Surfshark for my VPN. I tried to bypass the VPN for Outlook and all of my email gets halted by my ISP, Xfinity. I have to pause the VPN in order to send and receive emails.
Then your not bypassing your email in the VPN settings.
I use Surfshark on two TVs and know what your asking I think I started having issues when I checked all the Amazon garbage on one of my smart tv I had no idea I was buying a big tv and stuck with them or fighting them all the time to disable there’s to use what I want! But it’s a grind as they just reclick all I turn off lol! So I’m going to take them out the VPN where it goes thr and just let it do it original job lol or someone can tell me better!
Oh and I think there the reason I get lots of buffering and I’m paying for UTuBe lol and through that I pay for other ones so I can’t watch nothing without the buffering untill I go back through and shut off all that Amazon apps again it’s so snowing I quit using Prime as they were triple charging me and refused to reimburse me then when I canceled my account and took the credit cards out of the system they still tripled charged me! That’s when I told them it was literally breaking every law so they reimbursed that one only! So that’s why I won’t use them again I’d don’t monthly purchasing and prime since 2003 so guess I’m not baled as a customer!
i have used various iptv services and they will not run when i have surf shark on
That’s where I’m at as well! Amazon has a problem going through Surfshark, which becomes immediately apparent when I try to watch an Amazon program via my Firestick (or FireCube) w/ Surfshark active. In that event, I simply turn Surfshark off until I’m done. Like you, I want everything to go through VPN. My FIRST move when using any Fire device in my home is to make sure Surfshark is connected.
Some officials service run VPN detection software so you can’t access the their servers.
Some VPN’s use obfuscated servers that can sometimes overcome theses detections.
You need to use the correct protocol within the VPN to use the servers.
Have you asked your supplier to allow your connection full access to any location using a vpn.
This can be enabled on their panel.
I’m new to Android box world but took seriously Troy’s rec to use VPN and bought SS thru his posted link. He emphasized the importance of the kill switch. BUT, I had an experience where with kill option ON I’m streaming away then went over to check SS and showed I was disconnected.
So my conclusions are: 1) Kill does not work or 2) Unless I specifically select the app to be protected, it is not.
Followed up with a chat on SS site and the tech told me SS does not operate well with android. He could not explain why kill did not work but did NOT indicate that each app needs to be checked for VPN protection. So I’m still confused about the whole protection thing with SS on my tv box.
- Open SS
- Click Features
- Turn on “Route through VPN”
- Under that is shows how many apps are running through the VPN
- Click to add apps
- Add whichever apps you want to run through VPN
- Go to settings
- Turn on Killswitch (I always make sure it’s on BEFORE I connect to a server)
- Go to right side of screen and connect to a server(what ever location you want)
I’ve been using this method for a long time on all of our boxes and have had Zero issues
@Streaming429 You are aware that running Netflix through the VPN located in another country will open up the Netflix library in that other country, correct? Not always is what you see in the US library what is available in every other country’s Netflix library around the world. There are many other shows that due to restrictions are not available in every country. That may open up more shows for your wife to watch if you are so inclined. Just FYI. Slightly off topic but still touching on what’s being mentioned here.
Yes but I don’t watch it, Wife does and she could really care less. Lol
Thanks though!
There are codes for getting unlisted content on netflix as well…
Hi all ! I don’t want to beat this dead horse….BUT my problem is similar, but not exactly the same.
I Use a Buzztv X5 128. SS VPN , and iptv thru the Buzz tv “live tv” application. With SS turned on the live tv app does not work. My provider says they cannot do anything at their end. I cannot find the live tv app in the SS bypass VPN to check it off. I have tried every combination of all “buzztv applications” in the bypass list, but none allow for the livetv to work with the SS connected. I be pulling my hair out trying to figure this one out. Could any one with the same setup, and / or knowledge please PM me with the solution to this concern?…..Cheers ![]()
Hey all, I was Considering buying The highly recommended Buzztv Power Station 6, so I have been in contact with Buzztv, to see what there response was to my above question. The following is there answer (paraphrase). The Buzz tv’s “live tv” app is not an app, it is part of the OS, therefore you cannot bypass the live tv part of the OS with the Surfshak bypass controls. This is necessary for me because there are other apps constantly running in the background on myX5 when I am watching live tv, where as on the Formuler you can bypass mytv3, as it is not part of the os but a proprietary app within the unit, and shows up in the bypass list and works like a charm. Now I am not slamming the Buzztv group, but after bringing this to their attention they said call Surfshark, its the VPN’s problem…..NOT, so I guess my next purchase will be to the Formuler 12 plus. If a moderator reads this please feel free to add this to the Buzztv PS6 review as this is the first time Buzztv has heard of this issue and they are not willing to look at an update to Fix this issue.
thanks for reading!!!
