Surfshark account suspension

Yesterday I turned my Onn4k+ on and saw that I was logged out of Surfshark. When I tried logging back in, I wasn’t able to do so using my username and password, so I tried a password reset, but no email was sent from Surfshark to create a new password, so I started a chat with Surfshark support. It turns out that their automated system issued a block on my account. They unsuspended the account after I reached out to them, stating, “It was my first offense.” They said the account was flagged by their automated system because, “it detected network resource usage anomalies associated with service abuse.” They suggested I activate 2 factor authentication, which I did.

I have been using Surfshark for 3 years or more. I have never changed my usage habits. Three of my children in their 40’s currently share the account for their streaming, on 1 device each, for over a year now. I thought family members are allowed to use the account? Surfshark claims there are no bandwidth limitations with the account and family members are included, so why was I flagged? Is this a case of false advertising? Have they changed their policy? They didn’t specify the exact reason when I was chatting with support. Is this the result of a new system they have initiated to stop people from reselling illegally?

I would love to hear from anyone who has had a similar experience. Perhaps they are changing the rules now that they have carved out their market share?

I had a very similar experience not long ago, and Surfshark has been glitchy for me ever since. Figured it was me or something to do with my devices, but could never get to the bottom of it. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I just can’t trust them now even though I have TWO seperate accounts. I oh so loved SS when it was trouble free. They changed something to do with sign ins, and using that stupid QR code thing that pops up is not for me, as I hardly use my phone for anything like that. I was using SS on several boxes (I test a LOT of devices) but they are all here at my home-base, so no wierd IP’s or anything like that. My stuff is stable as a sober judge. I obtained a copy of IPVanish and it works awesome, no glitches, loads perfectly without a hitch, smooth connection everytime. IPV now has its very own built in “green-dot” indicator that shows in the bottom right of the screen, not intrusive and kinda tiny. That alleviates the need for monitor dot. I tried using both but monitor dot freaked out so I turned it off and uninstalled it. I am highly dissapointed in Surfshark lately as I bought the second account thinking it would work, but nope, still issues prevail. Hope they get it sorted for sure, and certainly hope others do not have the hassle I have had with it. For me, I’m moving on…or in this case, moving BACK to IPV. Stream on Streamers!

Been with IPVanish since 2019. No problems with the service. Loving that they added a kill switch and green dot. I got a lifetime subscription for $90 every 2 years. Customer service has been very responsive, when I had connectivity issues with a couple of older mobile devices. My motto, is if its not broke don’t fix it. :slightly_smiling_face::slightly_smiling_face::slightly_smiling_face:

Did you check with your kids to see if maybe they had made any changes to their devices ?

They haven’t done anything different the entire time they’ve had it. They only use it for streaming and they haven’t changed any settings.

I used to use IPVanish also. For a while, they were behind in features that Surfshark offers so I have been using Surfshark exclusively for the past year or two. I was thinking of switching back after this. My only issue is that my account is paid up through 2029.

If the support ticket(or whatever) is still open I would keep asking politely for an answer from them. If you hear any more from them or ever get any answers, please keep us posted. Thanks.

I would continue to use until subscription is up. Thats 3yrs of money to give away.

The frustrating thing is they don’t tell you what you did wrong. They claim not to know what the cause was. I got kicked after a 2nd offense one time.

I didn’t think to ask yesterday, but was yours the only box that was logged out or did this affect your children’s devices as well ?

All of my devices (6 total), including my work computer and smartphone. Also all of my kid’s devices (1 each for 3 children).

I use ipvanish…no proplems and it has had a kill switch for years.
