Stremio is not free

I don’t understand Stremio. I downloaded the app, but it tells me I to pay subscription. Thought it was free

Stremio by itself is completely free to register and install. I would first go through this guide if you haven’t already - How to Install Stremio App on Firestick & Android TV (2026 Guide)

Where the costs come in is when you pay for premium debrid services like TorBox and pair those with Stremio addons - How to Setup TorBox in Kodi, Stremio & APKs (Video Guide)

I strongly suggest you follow my free guide as that will get you up and running. Yes, Stremio comes with a default addon that requires payment but that gets wiped out when you use the Bootstrapper.

Remove the watchub addon and you won’t see those sources wanting payment, then follow Troy’s tutorial for setting up Stremio. Other than paying for some premium debrid services, and say Debridio, to improve source selection and make Stremio a powerhouse, it is entirely free. You don’t have to pay for them, you can do it all for free, but believe me the small costs for Debridio and TorBox for an entire year is worth every penny. Way less than the price of a cup of coffee every day. Troy explains it all in his Tutorials and Videos.

I find Kodi and the available add on’s a superior platform than Stremio. But Stemio is easier to install.

Some ppl like Kodi, some Like Stremio. One isn’t any better than the other, just different.

Yep to each their own - Stremio vs Kodi: Which Streaming App is Better in 2026?

@ANDREW72 @TP-Ryan @Miki And the times, they are a-changin

Free vs Really Cheap, I just want to watch my movies and series in good quality. Having great success with Weyd using TB and Debridio. I know $15 + $10 = $25 annually but that’s cheap for all the viewing content. Debridio was a real game changer for me in Stremio and Weyd. Talk about no buffering! Kodi vs Stremio isn’t the issue for me, viewing the videos with little to no buffering in good quality is the goal !

I am with you 1000%. The whole thing is way cheaper than what I use to pay for cable. Here in Canada it cost me $240/ mth for internet and 200 channels, then cell phones were on top of that. I am very pleased with Debridio with Torbox. I figure it’s well worth supporting these developers. I am seriously considering paying for the lifetime Stremio. I also use Nuvio and have Debridio TB and Debridio PM. As the TB DB grows there are more and more 4K, HDR, HDR 10 and 10+ with Dolby Atmos. I also helped out the Nuvio Developers and a couple of addon devs as well as we we all know servers aren’t free. Have a great week @BigDave
