After installing the latest Sportsfire APk on my fire stick I noticed a secondary task got launched by the apk… does anybody know what it is ??
Possibly a maintenance checking task ??
Found that this version does not work as good for me as the old one , more sticking/buffering . Reverted back to old version 1.0.3 and back to good performance most of the time again
How did you notice this secondary task? If you can identify the added process then give us it’s name and then we might be able to give you a good answer and not just speculation.
On the fire stick it was highlighted under the notification tab , stating it was running in the background
Unfortunately I have now replaced the new version with the old version and can not remember the task name

seems strange i checked my notifications nothing there i would reinstall sounds fishy and make sure the secondary is deleted to be safe

If it’s not being seen on fire sticks my theory is !!!
After investigation NETAS task pointed me in the direction of a tasks that checks maintenance levels etc , maybe it checks the size of processing capability in a device and if greater than a certain level starts the task …. Just a theory I have reverted back to 1.0.3 where the task does not get started
i have latest one on firestick downloaded from sportsfire tv home page working fine no secondary apps running maybe as you said could be your device 
I will dig out an old fire stick and put it on there and see if the secondary task appears
IMO the apk does not work as good with the secondary task running
From my research, there is talk that this maybe a service/process that developers need/use. So it may be shown when developer options are enabled. This was only referenced on one reddit and I was unable to find any other threads referencing the service.
Not exactly the same name but just missing the ending S, NETA is a form of cryptocurrency. It’s possible that background service could be a crypto miner since you say the app doesn’t work as well when that service is running.

Although the task spawns off the sportsfire apk , it also terminates when you stop the sportsfire apk
That would make perfect sense if the service was encrypted and embedded into the sportsfire apk.
