I have a Sony TV model XBR85X950H (which I use with my Nvidia Shield Pro - love it!).
Has anyone updated with the new firmware version as referenced? As part of the initial TV setup I disabled auto-update (“otta not”) until such time as the ‘whats new’ features and reviews have been published…
This one is a bit scary as forum reports of bricked panels etc. after the upgrade. My TV is just past the warranty and I am reluctant to upgrade as everything is working great.
I’ve always gone with updates immediately for my Streaming devices and apps, but when it comes to my Samsung TV and Soundbar I wait until I’ve read a bunch of reviews and if I see a number of negative reviews, and the problem does not seem to be getting fixed, or doesn’t get any replies from the Manufacturer with suggestions, then I wait a few months. For my TV I go with the, “if it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it” philosophy. Although I did get annoyed with the constant update pending popup after 4 months I broke down and updated. G2G.
It’s a sony, if you read many reports of bad things after the update, I would NOT update. It’s working fine now so not worth the risk. I would download and save to pc or thumb drive tho and any future ones that may come out. Because after a while they and other brands will remove the firmware from their sites and you never know when you may need it, like when you are having problems related to firmware. Hopefully by that time you will have the full picture of which firmware is ok to use.
Good advice/recommendation thank you. Once you upgrade, you cannot revert to a previous version so it makes sense to download and archive it until when and if needed!
