Silk browser disappeared from Firestick 4K

Web browser app currently unavailable- please update your device to use Silk browser app…

Firestick is updated! oS 7.6.5.2. Silk is gone!
Does anyone know why?

Maybe restart your stick? Shouldn’t lose Silk.

Download and install Silk again. It’s available from a number of libraries if for some reason you can’t get it from the Amazon App store by searching.

Here is my copy found at downloader code 905788 or https://aftv.news/905788

Its the version 106.

The latest update on fire tv devices will uninstall apps in the background that are less used to make space if your device is low on storage.

Amazon will not uninstall the Silk browser symbolized by the white Amazon smile on a blue background with the word “internet” as it’s an integral part of their installs and is a protected module.

Indeed it’s not a protected module, it is optional and can be uninstalled and installed at any time.

If this is so on the new Firestick Fire OS 8 then that is indeed new. Yes it can be disabled on the Firestick Fire OS 7 but not uninstalled as far as I’ve ever known. The following from Amazon themselves.

Not sure what’s happening but I have Silk browser uninstalled on all my devices here in Ireland and have the option to install them again if I want, it was using up space for something I never used so removed it from everything by just uninstalling in the usual way.

Very odd, but that just disables it and it’s still there, just disabled with all history and updates removed. At any time you can go to the amazon app store and renable it by downloading it, which just basically updates and re-enables it. This to he sure is on the Firesticks.

Yes indeed there is an uninstall feature in the new stick for Silk but I haven’t tried to do it.

Silk reinstalled after a call to Amazon tech and doing a firestick reset. The reset went through several updates and Silk reinstalled. I guess it was just the lack of updates - although when I did click update it said it WAS UPDATED. Probably just a tech glitch.
Thanks to everyone who chimed in to help!
