I noticed a new icon on my Shield Pro this morning… Shield Beta. I clicked on it and it wants an e-mail address and access to the phone. I didn’t go any further as I don’t know what Beta is about. Has anyone used it? Can you tell me what it is?
Also, just wondering why when I click on some 4K links, the picture is faded and is bright green and pink. If I back out and open again, sometimes it fixes the problems and sometimes it doesn’t. Just wondering if that’s in the link or in my Shield causing that issue.
For me I have a Samsung TV so can’t play Dolby Digital but can play HDR and HDR 10+. If I try to play Dolby Digital I get that colour anomaly. Now I can get the Dolby Atmos sound which is great. Not sure what that Beta is. I do have Match frame rate (beta) in my settings, and I’m waiting for the latest hotfix that will correct the issues Google caused to the Match frame rate.
Aha. I did some research. Nvidia has a Beta program that you can sign up to join. This will allow you to test any Beta releases. It is already in the system but inactive. Personally, unless you know way more than the average user I would stay away from it. If a Beta messes up your Shield you may not have the skills to undo the problem and only get frustrated.
Agree …that’s why I backed out. I have enough problems trying to figure this stuff out, don’t need to add more headaches with Beta. Thanks for the info …
Hey @Bob5722 I just got the notice that the Shield Beta is available for me to install. It’s really small, about 1.5Mbs only. I found an article stating that this is not a Nvidia update but rather a needed update by Google as now Google is telling devs that their apps must target Android 14. So not a specific OS update from Nvidia. I have auto updates disabled on my Shield so I’m going to wait.
Thanks Miki…I did not install it and the icon has now disappeared from my Shield. Right now, things are working well so I’m inclined to leave it as it is …
Don’t bother. It’s burried and does nothing and you can’t change anything in it’s GUI. It’s just so any apps meet the latest requirements of google to be Android 14 compatible.
