Rooting Your Android Box

I read it. I was curious about your exact experience on your device. But tx.

From system icon, I just went to Ugoos settings, clicked on the root option using Magisk and chose the silent root option. Voila! My box is now rooted with more freedom to download apps I want and keep out what I don’t want. Since Magisk was already on the device, the rooting process was quick and easy.

Well this definitely sways my choice from the Shield to Ugoos. Now to see if I can get one here and how much. Thank you. So I can get the Ugoos Am 6 here for just $1328.00 Cdn.
Found it from Amazon Mexico for the 6B $304 Cdn. Now to find out the latest and best Ugoos. Oooo I love a challenge.

Do you have a pre-installed samba server on that box?

No. I did a search of all installed apps but did not see any server apps installed.

Boy that seems like a lot of $. You can get this box off Amazon (US) for $199.

Ya this is Mexico. Double any U.S. price by the time I pay U.S tax, delivery, import fees, 16% MX tax, and delivery here.

If rooting was able to be done properly using Magisk, would that give me access to potentially flash a new OS onto it? For example, AndroidTV 10 to a Google OS?

That is a major, major change to your device and apart from taking great care in doing a change to your operating system to avoid bricking it, you need to get some expert advice on how to do it. Try contacting Troy here at Troypoint to see if he has any recommendations.

I totally agree, it is risky, if even possible. Some boxes are super locked up to try and keep their certification rights, etc, so it would be super difficult. I have 2 Mecool KM6 boxes that have AndroidTV 10 on them, but don’t have the ability to link the TV like a Fire Device, or Google device, and so they are pretty much useless to me now. I used them, but am just done with using two remotes because Mecool refuses to include that important feature. I just started researching this topic, but I wasn’t sure how many have accomplished something like what I describe above.

I do not think so.
Android images are specific to a product (different cpus/ram speeds/hardware in general)
It is done in layers that kinda sorta overlap/jump into a higher level at times.
Compiling takes 2+hours even on a intel i9 system.

Manufacturers test it by another system (sorta like Jenkins for Kodi) before release.

I got this mostly right…android for a device is way different than installing windows. It is a tested image rather than a general OS that finds its drivers later.

Ick, yea doesn’t sound doable lol. I don’t understand why there isn’t a way to wipe it and install a new OS on these boxes, but I’m sure they are purposely made ultra secure so people like us can’t change things.

unless you know what your doing its not easy and can easily go wrong

Jarvis! KODI 16! Now you are really going back to the Exodus Days! :joy:

giphy

result of rooting going wrong
