Roku and fake KODI

So found an interesting app on the ROKU calling itself KODI. It seems to be a window to play live stream of your provider. Tested the tool out as it looks like an old version of a generic TV box. Works fine for live viewing.

Anyone else familiar with it? Are you afraid of getting your account stolen ?

Is it something you need to activate like the IPTV channels they have?
I looked at one of them but didn’t buy the service after the trial.

No. You provide the IPTV credentials. It will allow you to view

Okay the one I used I had to provide the list but had to activate it on their site, it was locked to that roku box’s MAC address. Had a 7 day trial and then it was $14 to buy the use of the player for life.

There are many of these apps posing under the names of reputable media players, such as Kodi, Vimu and VLC. It is highly advised not to use them as they are suspected of trying to get the credentials you enter into them for live viewing.
Use reputable, tried and true solutions that allow streaming from your provider, not sketchy apps that obviously try to lure people in by using the names of well-known apps.

That’s the one dave. Liked how they did it because it looks exactly like the old style IPTV applications. I did put in one of my test M3U sources and it did work. Yes it’s locked to the Mac address of the Roku. Sent a message to them and asked if I could move to a new Roku, and they mentioned yes. Of course the risk is that they just steal the account and use it to sell to other people in a pyramid scheme. It’s all dark tech sort of so risk everywhere.

I would only get KODI from Troy’s Toolbox via the downloader code or from the official KODI site. I know there’s some other legit Dev’s that also have their own Downloader codes as well.

Understood. This application is not Kodi, but they use their name to gain attention in the Roku app search algorithm. You can not do Kodi on the ROKU.

You see the problem here don’t you? People do not read they skim for keywords and reply. Kind of sad.

I had the same sort of thoughts, I did not even try to pay, because I thought, I am not putting me CC information in there. Nice to know you could move it, but who knows about that, I still come back to, if i bought it for $15 there is no guarantee Roku will not disable it or the company will pull it. Either way they got my $15 my CC info and my service login information.
