I use the RT-G2 on my Denon atmos reciever set up and a Dolby vision tv. Preforms flawlessly. Best box I’ve owned for this set up. Bought a second for a non reciever set up because I really like the remote, storage and speed.
This box is great. Smooth and flawless streaming. I replaced a Shield with one, ordered a second RockTek as well.
Luckily, I bought the G2 before it was cool at $129 lol. Not long after my review of it, it jumped to $149. Still a decent price for what it is imo.
For those of us with a RockTek G2, a large update is available (1.14 GB). It upgraded to AndroidTV version 12.
ohhhhhhh…I appreciate the heads up!
Thanks MOMD! I would not have known it if not for your headsup as I dont log into mine all the time. I have more devices than I do tvs now, and all of my tvs have at least two boxes on them! Am I outta control yet? Hmmm come to think about it, I DO have a spare hdmi port on my samsung in the office…IM GOING IN…
I won’t be able to dig in until maybe the weekend. Let us know what you find in the update. Hopefully some good stuff!
Now my G2 has a pop up to “Update Remote”, but I have searched and can’t figure out how to do that. The update to the box was successful, this is the first time I have seen this before. Have you seen it, and/or found out how to apply that update to the remote?
I saw the same message but it disappeared and I don’t know how to update the remote.
Try going to play store > manage apps > updates and see if there are updates, believe thats where mine updated on G2.
@AMD237 @Reece How did your updates go? On mine I see that the audio has changed. It changes levels more between apps, and Stremio+RD has some trouble playing some links’ audio. Still poking around though. I also have to set Tivimate to play over other apps which I didn’t have to before. I am not getting that with other apps. It loads differently too.
I also had audio issues, but I can’t really begin to understand them. I ended up factory resetting my G2, but then I wondered if the update lowered the internal audio volume level of the box. Like the Mecool KM6s I have, it seemed to have its own volume level that needs to be turned up so that you can hear it at a reasonable level out of the TV. Anyway, like you said, some of the sources like on Stremio have acted more weird than they did before. I’m not sure exactly how to describe it, but the update did change things. I think I’m back to close to normal now, though.
I’ve been thinking about doing a reset too. Just haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
The main thing was after the update I had no audio. I tried setting after setting and just decided to factory reset. After that reset, I realized maybe I just needed to unlink the TV control from the remote settings and turn up the box volume all the way, then relink the TV control to the remote. Just a tip in case that is what you are experiencing. Might save some time if you don’t really NEED the reset.
Hey MOMD! I have not had the chance to get mine put in the office yet. Life stuff and lack of motivation to clear out a path to get to the tv actually. My office looks like a dang warehouse of pc hardware and network equipment at the moment. I am going to get to it tonight though so I will let you know how it goes, thanks for inquiring.
Ok so I did get the RockTek moved to my Samsung in the office (quite the ordeal due to so much stuff in the way, but I digress)… I ran Ethernet to it since I am such a big fan of wired connections and like to utilize the nice network I built. I then updated the RockTek to the latest build after the prompt to do so. After a reboot is when I ran into some glitches. I changed TV’s to the current Samsung and then went to add the Vizio 5.1 soundbar already in place there and working fine on the Cube from the e-Arc port. RockTek finds it ok, but I cant get it to play right. Sound is not responding correctly, I researched everything I can find right now to minimal avail. I finally got some sound from it, but it is not loud at all. Im sure it is a weird setting in there somewhere I am missing, but at this point I am ready to do a complete reset and start over with it. I may try to see if I can back up the configuration first for ease of adding providers later. But hey at least I can get some practice if I have to load them all again, whatever. When the hobby gets aggravating, is it still a hobby? Grrrrrr… TBC…
See my post above. Make sure the box volume is turned all the way up. You may have to disconnect the remote from your tv, turn it up and the reconnect.
Yeah I read it again, thanks. Was just about to edit my post to reflect my update went like yours. Its probably a flawed update. Ill try what you mentioned.
OK…thanks to you (again!) AMD237, I Found It. It was the “TruVol” setting on my Vizio 5.1 soundbar remote. When I toggled that sucker on, the Walls began to Rumble and the Wife went to full battle mode before I could hit the mute button. (She’s got a hair trigger anyway that one…) Glad I got it sorted because I need to use that RockTek box some since I have it. It’s still pretty snappy! Thanks again!
