I can record to my pc hd from tivimate. I tried to put an ssd on my router usb port, but it does not assign an ip to the drive. I need that ip to send recordings from tivimate to the router. Or am I missing something. All help appreciated.
verify if your router supports using the usb as a media hub. The router will allow you so format the usb device and set up a share. Once setup you would send to the share address via smb.
The router is an Asus and it will format the usb drive plug in. After that, will I be able to get an ip address for it and then use the smb link, just change the address in tivimate?
should look similar to this after format
after setting up as you want just below this pic you will see location etc.

After making the new folder and saving it, I can’t find it in my folders as a part of my pc. The Asus guide was a big help, but I seem to hit a brick wall.
is it a windows pc? if so look into samba shares or network settings. Been a long time since I used windows but usually samba needs enabled (set up).
Its a windows pc and I am using smb from Troypoint to record to my pc from tivimate. I thought it may be nice to record to the router, but not so easy. I think I will just leave it the way it is. TXRon, thankyou for your help and support, I appreciate it. Its just a little too involved for my old brain.
no prob, if it aint broke dont fix it … samba can be a pain but recording to that router usb is rather easy. I have an asus router also and it does work. I prefer not to use it because my way of thinking is I need all the geddy up the router has and dont want to “bog” it down. I use a mini pc as my server with linux and save everything there to a 5tb drive. Maybe a windows guru will chime in and offer help.
I have an Asus RT-AC3100, plenty of giddiup. I also use a mini pc, replaced a 5-6 year old tower. I7 Intel 11 generation, 1 Tb HD and another Tb SSD inside. I am just blown away at how fast this thing can go. Don’t think I’ll ever buy a tower again.
Thanks for your help, I appreciate it. Now back into the router and set it back to where I had it. LOL
yea, these mini pc’s are cool, cheap and work great.
Mini PC’s are great. I have a 10 year old Toshiba laptop I would take when we would visit the kids/grandkids up north, but not updateable to windows 11. Bought the mini and a foldup 16" monitor and I’ll just take my mini with me. Everything I have is on one machine and very portable. I have thought about buying one and just use it for my recordings.
Been using firesticks for years, bought a Shield about 3 months ago, all I can say is WOW. Very impressive box. I also bought a Walmart ONN for under $20, works very well for the money. I love to play with tech. I also have a ham radio license, not active for years, but keep renewing the license, just in case. I have an Advanced class ticket and worked hard for it, morse code. Yuck.
I just built a police scanner using a $100 mini pc and a rtl-sdr dongle. To buy one ready maid is over $600.
Now that’s interesting. I remember when they started changing police, fire, cities over to digital radios and all scanners were becoming obsolete. There’s always a way around.
yea its a fun hobby. A scanner can be built on an android tablet also. I did that first and as usual it steamrolled
