Proton VPN Update Nov, 2025 Not good

How do I install it on my T95Z? Through Google Play?

So I won’t be recommending Proton VPN to anyone. They just went ahead and made an update that is “GOOD” for us. We can no longer see the full list of servers that each country, and town, has, and will only now be shown about 12 servers per location not the supposed thousands they have. This is based upon an algorithm they have decided benefits us. In fact it does the opposite and hinders my choices and is not what I paid for. SurfShark may be a good choice.

And yet another reason I will be leaving proton(I have mailplus) for Start Mail, and I’m dropping SS for Express VPN just to shake things up even more….

I just updated and you’re right. Wth. I just renewed last month. They gonna change this or give money back for service not rendered. It’s only streaming, why @Miki

I know. I’m ticked big time. They boast of all these servers and then restrict how many we actually see and can use. Not good. Sent a complaint in.

You won’t regain any server visibility from Surfshark either…at least not from the android app. While, of course, you can select what location you want to connect from, SS will auto choose the server from that respective location. Switching servers from the location would require you to disconnect and reconnect. It also doesn’t show you actual server load by percentage or similar scale.

While I still use SS (and also own a 2 yr sub to Proton) as my primary, and despite its shortcomings, it works well for my streaming needs - these are lack of features that should be noted while you’re sorting through your Proton frustrations.

Odd i just updated on 2 of my streaming boxes and proton is still the same as always for me. Although if it does get rid of all the servers i can choose from then goodbye proton. Sad cause i love proton and that was one of the reasons was being able to choose what server in what town i wanted. My sub runs out the beginning of Dec. so guess ill have to go with something sub par again. Thanks for the info Miki

For the moment it seems to have only affected Streaming devices. Laptops, tablets, phones are not affected. As of now on my BuzzTV P6L there are only 12 or less server choices per city.

Hey miki, what package did you get with nord, and I just renewed 2 yrs with proton 30 days ago yesterday. This is BS.
@miki iOS and windows hasn’t changed yet.

My renewal is in March. I will put a message on my calendar to cancel my account as that is the only way you can now stop auto pay, which has also changed after update. They are taking away options for configuring their apps every update. I have now paid for Nord. And it comes with VPN, NordPass and NordLocker 27 mnth sub. $150.

Dang. I just signed up for two years of Proton VPN.

Ouch. Bad timing.

Black Friday deal arrived before the negative review.

Sorry about that. As soon as I got the facts, and answers to my questions, I thought I should inform others and let everyone decide for themselves.

I got the package with NordVPN, NordPass, and NordLocker. The middle of the pack one. $146.55 for 27 months.

I guess proton doesn’t give a crap. They have not answered my feedback except with we received your message. I see several of us just renewed too. Again BS @Miki exactly what they Everytime

They have replied to me. Basically nothing I can do. They said to use the server search option. Then I have to explain to them that the Streaming devices do not have this function. Then I get an apology and a statement saying they will pass this onto the dev as a feature request, and I point out it wouldn’t be needed if they had just left it alone. They make every effort to pass the issue onto others in the organization hoping you’ll give up. Well I have, and will, move on. Oddly enough after changing over to NordVPN I no longer am restricted to specific servers while using Stremio and the Torrentio addon. Now I just simply get access, using the NordLynx protocol, which is based on Wireguard.

Yeah, I got the special also.

This doesn’t bother me as much though, because I’m primarily using Proton installed on my router. When I’m out & about on my phone or at where I might stay away from home there’s enough servers available on the Proton VPN app that the restriction won’t hinder me.

I agree 12 servers in any given location should be plenty, but when you’ve spent many many hours finding servers that don’t restrict, or aren’t restricted by, debrid services, and then you no longer have access to them, it’s a huge problem imho.
