I don’t want to beat a drum & I am not looking for sympathy. Maybe Prayers are definitely appreciated. Just want to make Men & Women who have men in their lives aware to push for a simple blood test called a PSA Test. At the age of at least 45 you need to ask your Doctor to perform one. I started this jury just a year now at 60 with various tests & now a procedure called a Tulsa Pro Procedure. I am now healing up & hopefully on my way to recovery. I still have to do my testing in case it comes back. Not to bore everyone so if you are interested in my story & it gives you more info. You can check out my video on YouTube. Please do not think for one second that you are boring us. Yes we are a tech focused site but if we can’t take a moment to pray for you
or wish you the best in your battle to survive and overcome then what good are we? My wife was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and I was diagnosed with Scleroderma Morphea and both of us were given 5 yrs to live. We bought a Goldwing Motorcycle and damned the expense and toured every chance we got. The wife was literally taking Chemo while on the back of our bike going down the highway at 70mph. Now she is cancer free for 15 yrs and after 7 yrs we found out I had been misdiagnosed and have had 2 subsequent misdiagnosis by ahem “Professionals” since. We are both now 72, yes we gave up motorcycle touring but we both walk 5 miles every morning, smile, laugh and joke with everyone we meet. We are about to drive for 4 days across country, why you may ask? Well simply for an adventure and to rejoice in life. There is to much stress, worry and well, complete BS these days that we choose to thumb our noses at it and rejoice in every day we wake up. So yes there are many here who comprehend your plight, but also many of us who have overcome and lived. It’s been said “laughter is the best medicine” and we believe it. Stay positive, rejoice in every single gain you make and know there are more to come. Our prayers and wishes are with you.

I was diagnosed at 65. Due to annual PSA tests, they caught it early. Please, everyone, get tested regularly! I ended getting a procedure called Proton Therapy which is a fancy name for 44 directed radiation treatments. I got through it with almost no side effects and now am cancer free for 13 years (and still have regular tests).
My prayers are with you. With treatments now available, this disease can be cured.

I have been getting the PSA each year for the last15-16 years. I’ve always been in the good range. But oddly, my provider said that don’t typically test for it after 70 years old. I thought that it was kinda strange but consulted Dr. Google and confirmed that they typically don’t test after 70 but I can’t recall why. But I insisted on the testing during my last years visit.
I do have really weird and fairly rare blood cancer called Polycythemia Vera.it’s caused by a mutation of two genes. (wouldn’t it be great if we got gene mutations that made us able to jump 10 feet high, bend steel or read Einstein’s Theories and understand them?). The body makes too much red blood cells. Sound good until you realize that makes your blood too thick which could lead to clots.Think stroke or heart attack. Add to that a cardiac calcium score of 1145. Arteries as clogged as the plumbing in a 75 yo house.
Congrats to you smaerd666 and MNbob, that it was caught before really caused major problems. The Angels are with you both as well as for Miki and his wife. F*#k Cancer!
I wish you nothing but the best. Ive been through Chemo, radiation and major surgery for a different cancer. I won’t lie and say it was easy but i am here to talk about it so its a win for me.

I had a prostatectomy 8 years ago. PSA at undetectable ever since. No radiation or Chemo. Good fortunes and low PSA in the future.

I was diagnosed almost 2 years ago I did radiation now my psa is still undetectable and I have beaten it at least for now thankfully, prostate cancer is very treatable. My prayers go up for you to also beat it because cancer sucks!!!
Wishing the best. I’ve had PSAs for over a decade and 58 now. Mine have thankfully always been real low and not sure how since I’m not always the healthiest eater. Non-smoker so I’m sure that helps. My late father had his prostate removed and then was all fine and lived a couple decades more to nearly 91. But for sure know it’s just a blood test.
Yes, they seem to stop testing after 75. BUT - lots of folks that do test have found it in the 70’s and a friend was at gleason 9 needing treatment. I do hope folks here have found any of the thousands of message boards to discuss with others.
I appreciate all the Prayers & Positive remarks. I didn’t want to get into great detail but I was also biopsied with Gleason 6,8 & 9. Scary diagnosis for sure. We will see now with regular blood test moving forward. God willing.
Live life to its fullest my friend. Ride it until the wheels fall off if you can. That’s why I went with a more experimental treatment with less complications than having it completely removed. I am looking at quality but maybe less quantity. Who knows but the big guy. Thanks for yours & others stories. Bless everyone fight this scourge call Cancer in any form. F Cancer.
Miki, are you talking to me directly or did you have to remove someones reply? If it was me it was not my intention at all to promote anything. I was only making Men aware of this easy PSA blood test & possible treatment option besides the barbaric act of surgery if applicable. I was devastated & nowhere to turn except our friend the Internet to research my case better. Rick

My doctor told me that the reason that they don’t test after 70 is because if you have it, you won’t die because of it, but you will die WITH it because it is such a slow growing cancer. For the record, I am 77 and get tested every year. I’m happy to pay a few dollars for the test for the peace of mind that it gives.
