Over the last month or so, I’ve had increasing problems using Stremio. The error I get when selecting a stream is “Switching to LibVLC player owing to playback error” followed by “Error code IO, Network Connection Failed”. My network is just fine - this only happens with Stremio, nothing else. Never, ever had this before the last month but it’s afflicting 90% of links. I’ve tried restarting the firestick (4k Max, Gen 2 - happens on three of them), signing out and back in to Stremio, deleting Stremio and re-installing it, trying several versions of Stremio (from 1.5.9 to the current 1.7.4).
Anybody else getting this error?
Miki: Please don’t merge this thread with the Stremio How To installation thread as the question is not related to installing Stremio. Thanks!
Trouble is, I’m suppose to keep all similar threads on like topics and this is about Stremio. I use Stremio daily and don’t have those issues. Try going into the settings and enabled tunneled playback and see if that helps.
I get the same thing when I’m trying to connect to some of the TV sources while others, for the same channel, connect no problem. If I remember correctly it’s just with the TV sources and the addon is USA TV. Tried all sorts of ‘fixes’ but without any success.
I get the error with both live TVchannels (USAtv) and VOD (Torrentio, MediaFusion, Comet, Scootio - all with or without RD). I’m trying with the external VLC player option and will report back tomorrow.
@sktn77a This happens to me ALL THE TIME on my Buzz TV P6L.
Stremio does not seem to work for me with Surf Shark on. Of course it is not advised to use Stremio without a VPN, but it won’t work with it on and I tried different countries and protocols.
Make sure you have Real Debrid or Premiumize to get multiple good links, that helps. You can be sure to set up one of these (RD or P) with the latest Stremio update videos from Troy (Ultimate Stremio set up video). Although I can still get that stupid cartoon cat and the LibVLC warning.
I do know using VLC tends to work but Max Pro player does not, at least often does not. This was happening often before I updated Stremio and employed Troy’s update video and started again since the update. It means I sometimes have to go through 8 links before one works. You have the best chance with 720 links and PirateBay.
I don’t know why it happens and would love a fix. @Miki has the same P6L as I do, I wonder why it never happens to him?
Anyway thank you for the topic. Here are my fixes, although they are not ideal. My hope is that because my wifi comes from T-Mobile, I’m less at risk from the men in black by using torrent files. A least that is what I tell myself.
When it works, it works fine with SS and Cleanweb. So far, VLC player has helped a lot (SS/CW on). I’ll keep updating this thread for a couple more days .
I can’t figure out for the life of me why my P6L runs stremio differently. I have no problems at all. I do use the Tunneled playback option that Troy refers to and have forever.
Well turning on playback tunnel worked great. a lot of annoying things like the stupid cat appearing midway in a show has not happened.
I just tried again with playback tunnel on and Surf Shark–so far so good. As usual, Miki may have saved the day! I’ll check back in a few days because this issue didn’t happen even time, just off and on….D
No. Inside the settings for Stremio is a tunnelled playback option that has nothing to do with the VPN. I never shut my VPN off.
Tunneled Playback – Primarily for Android TVs, sending the video signal straight to the TV by-passing video drivers etc. Aims to improve 4K, audio sync etc. Hardware Acceleration – offloads video decoding to your graphics card rather than cpu.
The setting is not in the steaming box it’s in the Stremio app.
open Stremio.
Click on Settings (far left menu, at the bottom)
Settings when clicked, on opens to the far right,
click on “Playback” in the new settings menu.
make sure Tunneled Playback is on.
I now have my VPN on also and no problem. I hated not having it on, especially for Stremio. All good now. let me know if you need more explicit instructions.
I’m upstairs now with my firestick 4K. Guess what? If SS is on—stupid cat. I turned playback on but that did not fix the VPN issue. Sigh. I hope you have better luck. At least my PCL is fixed.
