I stumbled upon this player, lets call it minimalist but quite good at render, Great epg implementation and in active development.
OwnTV is a native Android TV IPTV player built with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose for TV, and a dual playback engine — libmpv (FFmpeg) for movies/series and maximum compatibility, ExoPlayer (Media3) for near-instant Live TV. It’s a player only — you bring your own Xtream login, M3U playlist (by URL or a local .m3u/.m3u8 file on the device), or Stalker/Ministra portal (Portal URL + MAC address), and OwnTV gives you a fast, modern, remote-first way to browse and watch them.
I’m very impressed with this app. One glaring thing missing is recording function but possible that might be down the road. I used this app all day yesterday without one blip. Everything is open source and AI generated. I liked it so much I moved it from my “testing” row all the way and set it beside Tivimate. Yes It’s that good…maybe better than… well we shall see
I think you mean Tiviglass? But playback for me is much better here. Tiviglass has far more features is active in development etc so the jury is stiil out on glass. This app however is also active in development and it was actually updated this morning. A big plus here is open source, totally free.
in case you didnt scroll all the way down on the github page… Downloader code 4308278 (or aftv.news/4308278, which always points at the latest signed OwnTV.apk). and it also appears he has also developed a 64 bit apk.
I checked this player out and it sure has a ton of settings and features, including a good amount of customization, a nice epg and a download option for movies and series to allow for off-line viewing. The only glitch I have seen so far is the lack of a favorites catagory on the epg screen. If I’ve missed an option for this, please advise where I might find that. Thanks.
on the epg screen or TV Guide screen, look at top right where it says sort. Click that and it will scroll through Favorites, A-Z, Provider, Live TV and Catch up.
Can you create your own groups? For me that’s a must. I don’t record or care about pausing Live TV either, but without being able to create groups scrolling through a large favourites is as annoying as scrolling through a playlist every time I want a specific channel like sports or news or regular TV entertainment.
Tx for the recommendation @TXRon . Love testing these new apps out.
Miki I asked the dev that yesterday as I also want to create my own groups and move things around. He did reply that you could not at this time. So now I have at least got him thinking. I follow him on Telegram.
Excellent. tx for doing that. A receptive Dev who listens to suggestions is a must. Seems that the ability to create your own groups is not important for IPTV app developers and I find that odd.
I don’t find that odd @Miki . I mean how many Channels are in your Favorites? I probably have about 30 and I’d guess most are at 50 or less. With that small size why are groups important?
Yes I believe they are. But I find the average user I help has around 150 channels due to their diverse interests. Yes some ppl love to watch their wallpaper all day, but once you get deep into this hobby you find that some feeds simply are not the best, or may go down, or on the odd occassion buffer so having multiple sources provides a seamless experience, and that may require multiple channels. For me I enjoy watching Golf. So a single channel from a single source is just not enough. There are different announcers and different perspectives for the same event, so I need multiple channels. Now expand that for my multifaceted sports needs and now I have a multitude of channels for sports alone and that can easily exceed 50 for that genre alone. For me this isn’t just a hobby, it’s my entertainment, and my needs to fulfill that void, for not only me but my family, are quite extensive.
@SoloWarrior , i am a 24/7 addict, so my fave list across 3 sources is extreme…the only ads i ever see are when i’m on a news/biz channel to check current crypto/gold/silver/oil…etc.etc.etc…and thats only for 5-10mins. at a time, 1 or 2 times a day…so grouping is mandatory…heck, i’m eve working on a favorite faves group…
