My Dads ONN 4K streaming box will boot up and then goes to a black screen. He said he had wolf launcher on it but forgot how to turn it off and be able to get to add new applications. He deleted the wolf launcher and this is what happened. It has the startup screen but never gets to the home screen. Is there a boot sequence that will allow me to factory reset it? I have to walk him through it over the phone.
This issue has been around some time and talked about here on this forum, however I cant remember if it was ever resolved. I will look around…
how to reset onn box at black screen at DuckDuckGo
Try accessing your setting using your remote’s voice commands, i.e. say open settings.
If that does indeed open your settings open your Launcher Manager and then disable custom launcher.
Don’t use an ONN but I think I read this solution.
Good luck.
I was able to get him to look for a reset button which there is by the hdmi input. Had him push it and powerup and it gave him some options, factory reset was one of them. Working to get him set back up now. Thanks everyone
The resets are on the older boxes, but unfortunately not the newer ones.
I’ve been looking like crazy for a fix and can’t find anything. I have the little Onn box and went to put a launcher on it so my wife didn’t have a bunch of junk. Flauncher downloaded just fine and applied it but no apps showed up. Suddenly my screen went black and shows nada! I have rebooted it a number of times with no success. I can do a factory if I could get to the settings but nothing. Is there a way to reset without going in to settings. I push the button down next to the HDMI input for well over 10 sec but all it wants to do is re-pair remote. Don’t know what happened. Point me to an answer from a previous post. As far as I can tell there is no reset button. Thanks
If it is the latest gen 4k Onn boxes, the button should be beside the HDMI plug in. If it is the older version, I forget what that requires.
Update: Older Onns have a button but it is on a different side of the box, not next to HDMI port.
To get rid of all the junk on the main page just go to Apps only mode. For the apps only mode on the Onn 4k box , Click the profile pic, select Manage account, on the right scroll to the bottom.
Second to last item is the Apps Only toggle.
Factory reset. Remove the power, now press and hold the reset button and apply the power, wait 5 seconds then release.
For a repair remote reset, make sure power is applied then press the reset button and hold for 5 seconds.
gave up on it for now and threw in a drawer. For $20 it wasn’t worth my sanity. I feel I’m pretty good at this technology stuff and I did try all that I thought would work. I come back to it at a later date. Just bought the 4K version and I do have a number of boxes so all is good, Thanks though
Hello Remy, I’ve probably programmed a dozen or so ONN boxes for friends and family. I always load up Wolf Launcher and never have had a problem. In fact, I’ve bought and set up a number of other devices that Troy reviews and Wolf Launcher has never failed me. I realize that there are other launchers out there but its hard to argue with success.
