Onn Pro and regular Onn 4K issue hoping to get some suggestions:
Can’t set up Remote buttons for Volume, Power.
Just got a new TCL QM7K 65”
When trying to set up Remote buttons, Volume, Power, it goes thru all 9 of its built-in internal codes
and none work for Volume or Power.
The result is I have to use “Auto” not the tv, to set up, and now the Optical out uses CEC and the Optical signal is Variable not Fixed.
I use Optical out to drive headphones
Now when I try to mute the TV while using headphones it also mutes the headphones, same for Volume, it changes TV volume AND headphone volume.
I tried a old Onn 4K $20 box, same result.
Any ideas??
Sorry I honestly don’t. I don’t have any Onn devices and can’t look at the settings for one so I could help.
I bought an Onn 4k pro recently. I also had issues with controlling the power and volume on my TCL tv. I was going to put the ONN Pro on main tv but ended up leaving my hacked Amazon Cube 2 there. Also had issues with using the Direct TV Stream app on the ONN. Navigating function didn’t work very well.

Here’s what I’m going to try:
Pair my Onn remote to a Firestick, The Interweb says you can but it might only control TV Volume,Power. and I hope they mean by IR not CEC. (IR does work properly, I can use Cox/Firestick remotes.)
Bingo, If that happens I’ll then repair the Onn remote back to the Onn but not do Set up Remote buttons.
I’ll post update either way but I’m limited in Replies, may be a few days.
I may also try pairing a Firestick remote to the Onn for kicks, but I doubt all the functions will work.
EDIT: BTW the Firestick Pro Remote Replacement remote on Amazon with 1,2, keys AND Backlight
Is MUCH brighter than the Onn Pro backlit remote, very nice.
I Paired my Firestick Remote Pro to the ONN.
Had to unpair from Firestick 4K for it to Pair but it did. .
Most buttons worked: Channel Up/Down, D-Pad, Home, ON/Off, Power, Volume(But via CEC apparently not IR because if I blocked the front of the remote they still worked)
Settings button did not work, I used a button mapper to ReDo the Settings button to Open Settings which worked…but it seemed it randomly would bring up the Settings screen when I had not pressed any button.
FFwd, Rew did not work on some apps, (Maybe the expected action??) and did work on others.
Jiosphere browser loaded and responded to D-Pad but would not bring up the Keypad when clicking in the URL field.
All in All not bad, I may experiment with it further but for now I’ll repair it back to the Firestick.
Another strange:
My initial problem was the Mute and Volume buttons controlling the tv AND the Optical out.
Due to using CEC not IR since I could not pair with the TCL tv.
However I went to the Set up Buttons with TCL, Volume button, let it try to control, it didn’t, I Quit.
Then went back to watching something and tried Mute,Volume again and they now work properly.!!!
Mute, Volume only Mutes/Volumes the TV not the Optical out (Which I use to get audio out to Headphones).
Can’t explain, I’ll see if it sticks.

Have a tcl with onn 4k pro working the tv .When I connected the bluetooth onn remote to the tv it worked the tv volume then . have to set t cec to on . Sorry for rambling today have a virus thats going around .
My Onn Pro and the TCL QM7K is now working to my satisfaction, see my comment above
Nothing changed, it just started Mute and Volume as it should, TV only not Optical out.
Even tho the Set Up buttons did not seem to work.
Don’t think you can control volume over optical. The head phones themself would have to control the volume or a DAC with a remote installed between the headphones and the audio output device .
