I have a new Onn streaming box and have connected it to ethernet with adapters. I could not get it to work so I dived deeply into the internet to get answers. The one I got to work was going into developer options on Onn and turning off USB debugging and configure USB port from charging to ethernet. That worked but I cannot get the settings to hold. After going back to regular TV then back to Onn maybe an hour or so later the Onn will not recognize Ethernet connection. I have to go through the whole process again to get Onn to see ethernet. I don’t want to go through this every time I use Onn box. Has anyone come up with a hardware and configuration set up that works non stop forever without hiccups? Any help would be appreciated.
Not sure of the science behind this process, but I read to disconnect ethernet cable from Onn (if connected), turn off wifi, change usb function from charging to ethernet, remove power to Onn, connect ethernet cable to Onn, then power on the Onn. Go into network settings to see if it shows “connected to ethernet”. You had mentioned turning off usb debugging, but I don’t recall that being a part of the process.
I’ve tried all these things but no dice. Mine worked fine until a recent update about a week ago. I can’t even turn the tv off it keeps coming back on by itself. I have to kill the power strip. I should probably try a reset. But then I would have to re- install all my apps. Big pain in the butt.
I got it to work consistently like with any other Android TV box. Lot of misinformation being spread about the new Onn box right now. This is all you need to do, it’s fairly simple. Turn off wifi. Get into “developer options” and scroll down to “select USB configuration” switch it from “charging” to “RNDS (USB Ethernet)” go back scroll down and hit “restart”. When it powered back on with my OTG dongle connected with my USB 3 splitter with Ethernet I now I had an ethernet connection and my USB keyboard also worked consistently. It is now perfect. There are a couple different USB settings you can play with just remember the changes you make in case you need to change them back or just follow my instructions. I did another restart powered it back up, it switched itself back to “charging” in developer options but my USB dongles are working just fine and with Ethernet. I tried several including a ugreen. I’ve had it working now for a couple of days no issues Ethernet is consistent. Have fun.
Didn’t work for me
Good to hear you’re up and running. I will try the same with usb storage for downloads & moving apps. I’m sure a thread was started already.
how do i hardwire my onn box to stream faster? i have a wifi extender that i can connect an ethernet cord to but nowhere to connect ethernet to box!
