Onn 4K Plus vs Onn 4K Pro: Which Google TV Box is Better?

Originally published at: Onn 4K Plus vs Onn 4K Pro: Which Google TV Box is Better?

The following guide compares the Onn 4K Plus vs the Onn 4K Pro to help you determine which Google TV box is best for you. Onn also offers less powerful options such as the Onn 4K Streaming Device and Onn Full HD Streaming Stick but we suggest staying away from those. For a few dollars…

I have both the Plus and Pro and the extra gig of ram seems better for buffering in Kodi. I don’t much care about the small price difference or the Plus feeling slightly faster.

I had the lower end Onn devices and really liked them but the ultimate feature I believe is a must have (specially in a household that constantly loses the remote) is the find my remote feature. This was the Biggest feature for me really and just the extra cost of the Onn 4K Pro is less than what I would spend on replacement remotes. If the plus has this feature I would of got that and the extra space on the Pro is great for adding more apps/features to test out without having to get rid of something. Honestly any of the Onn devices are well worth the price it is mostly a matter of what other features are a fit for you.

Question: Using TiViMate on Onn Pro vs basic Onn 4k $20 model.
on the basic Onn 4k $20 model and Quad, 4 screens,
it would work fine with 3 screens, but start to stutter randomly on the Quad screens, and overheat.
.
On the Onn Pro, with the 3 gig ram 32gig of memory, would that help or is the overheating and stuttering because of the processor even on the Pro, is the Onn Pro processor any better at doing a full Quad screen.
Thanks for replies.and explanations…. Troy??

I rarely if ever use multi-screen, but tested this out for you on my Onn 4k Pro.

Sadly, with four screens, I’m getting some stuttering in two of the screens at random times, enough that it’s very annoying.

Three screens plays flawlessly.

Edit: Tried with Sparkle Player as well. It’s quite a bit better for four screen multi, still a tiny amount of stutter in one or two of the screens. Definitely more watchable than in Tivimate.

Not sure if the much more expensive boxes are capable of this or not, maybe someone here can try it.

Edit 2: I have 1gb internet so that’s not the issue. Tried adding channels from multiple providers as well, same results. Don’t use a VPN.

I have the ONN 4K Pro and Tivimate. Rarely use Multiview but just tested it out with the NFL game. 5 screens all games played flawlessly. When I added a 6th game I started to get some buffering. I get close to 400MB via WiFi and no VPN

Has anyone figured out how to record to the external USB drive using Tivimate on Onn 4k pro

Hello, this is how I do it.

Not sure what this means. CanadiWhile the Canadian price is slightly higher than the US MSRP, it remains a competitive option compared to other Google TV devices, such as Google’s own TV Streamer 4K, which is priced at CA$129.99. The device is region-locked to Canada, which helps avoid setup issues that some users experienced with US versions requiring a VPN. Users have reported positive experiences with the device, noting its fast performance, smooth streaming, and the ability to install apps from the Google Play Store, including VPNs and browsers. However, some users have reported issues with Wi-Fi connectivity and remote functionality, though these problems are not universal. The Onn 4K Plus model has not yet been released in Canada.an onn 4k pro

Thanks for the updated video. I made a few tweaks since we did this last time. I missed the AM LOGIC settings the first time around. Great stuff.

Stick is still working with umbrella, premiumize and surfshark VPN.

Waiting to see if any sale for black Friday on Onn boxes.

Just confirming that premiumize will work on onn box before I buy 2. Anyone able to confirm? I got the 3 year deal they had last year for premiumize and use it in my Kodi addons. It works great so I’d hate to lose it.

PM works great on my $29.95 ONN device.

Perfect. Thanks for answering.

The same way as as on the firestick. It is all done in the TVmate interface. You do need the pro version of TVmate.

Dan

@djmiller

have you done this yourself using an onn box?

Yes done on 2 onn pro devices.

I’m running only

I’ve been using Amazon FireSticks for a number of years. Last year after reading that the ONN box from Walmart was a good way to go I purchased the pro model. It worked ok for a while then it blocked out after an update . Disgusted with the ONN I went back to the Firestick. When Amazon was reported to start blocking unauthorized apps I read here that the ONN stick was the way to go for the future. Bought the cheaper recommended version and it worked ok for a couple of weeks., then the glitches started. So back to the Firestick I went. In my opinion the Walmart ONN box has a LONG way to go to to catch up to Amazons Firestick. Now I read here that Amazon might not block unauthorized apps so wtf??

Hello, Amazon is already blocking apps that they deem piracy and/or harmful with malware.

What do you mean it “blocked out after an update” and exactly what glitches are you encountering? Onn boxes are very popular among Insiders here and we can help you if you can provide details of exactly what’s going on.

Very sorry to hear of your streaming box issues.
Just curious, what do you mean when you said that the ONN box worked ok and then it “blocked out after an update”?

I know that you are venting a bit about how things are going in the streaming world. I was told quite awhile back that “nothing is permanent in the streaming world” so I assume that changes will come and not always for the better. My bet is on Amazon shutting out any type of side loading. Only allowing what is available in the Amazon app store. So if that works out for your needs then you are golden. But is you want to sideload things like Kodi, Stremio and IPTV stuff then it’s time to dump anything Fire OS related. The common alternative, at a reasonable price is the ONN Plus. Troy has tutorials on how to get the best of of the Plus and Pro box. And there are quite a bunch of good folks, here on the Insider, that can assist you in getting the best out of that box.
