Wi-Fi connection speed issue with Onn 4k Plus.
Just in past month, when starting up each day from suspend/sleep mode, the w-fi speed is down to 15 to 20 mps with VPN active, causing buffering of 4k and some 1080p programming in Stremio. If I restart the device, the speed returns to the previous normal with VPN of 125-150 mps. The speed without VPN active when waking from sleep is around 50 mps and jumps to 350 mps after restart. So, this seems to be an Onn problem and not a VPN issue. Something in the Onn wi-fi network interface seems to be compromised when waking from the power down sleep mode. I am using Google DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).
Is there anything other than resetting to factory that I should investigate before resetting ?? Tablets and laptops located near the Onn 4k Plus exhibit no change in their normal wi-fi speed.
Thatās a good question. I donāt know anything about the Onn but I do wonder if there is a power saving module or option on the device. I know a few of my devices have power saving settings but I turn them off for everything. That might be worth looking into. This may also be worth looking into.
I have a Onn 4K Pro, and once I activated developer option I went into developer and scrolled down to Power and Energy select that and then you will see options for āAutomatically turn off when inactiveā scroll down and select never, then you should be good to go.
I always power everything down. And when I re-start, and using SurfShark I always tab on āfind the fastest connectionā. And then my routine is to run Analiti. Everything just takes minutes to perform and assures me that I am actually connecting to the fastest location.
Now I do have the ONN Pro v.1, and have found that the best speed, with VPN is around 50 Mbps. Whereas my Ugoos AM9 and Shield Pro typically clock out at 150+ mbps. And they all three sit side by side with wifi, 1 gig fiber to the router.
Wow. Onn 4k plus is now $50. Im glad i bought one when they first came out.
