Done several searches in different combinations and did not find this issue.
I picked up the Onn 4K streamer a week ago. It seems to work great unless…
Occasionally I’ve had the audio drop. Sometimes starting a different app and coming back will get it going again, sometimes rebooting the device.
It has happened in different apps like YTTV, Stremio and one other. Luckily it is rare… but it has been at least three times since I got it configured a week ago.
Since no dialog here, hopefully that it is a rare issue. But can be a pain when watching a movie and it cuts out. Other times was when starting a show on YTTV.
I think that this is a known issue with these boxes. It’s been solid as of late (knock on wood), but a few revs back in Kodi we had two different units that would drop audio. It would require a reboot to get rid of it.
Last night, while streaming a series on Stemio, it (the sound) went out for that show/episode. I exited the app and tried again, normal box sounds could be heard. Same issue. I went to a different show/series, and it started working. I back out of that show, went back to the one I was wanting to watch, and tried again and it worked again.
I never use the supplied HDMI cable. I go and buy an ultra-high speed HDMI Cable, and always have a spare as well. I don’t spend a lot on boxs or dongles so might as well get a top line cable as well as other peripherals. Going to follow @TXRon and start using a fan for my Shield Pro, to eliminate yet another potential problem. Moving and don’t have to pay for electricity.
Any help would be appreciated. My Onn tv box is both buffering and flashing on and off at the same time. It’s connected to a Hisense TV if that means anything.
I followed the video as indicated for setup. I’ve changed the HDMI cable yet the problem persist and frustrating is not the word I want to use right now but it will do.
Set up was done lastnight
There is always a chance the box is defective. As cheap as they mass produce these units, unfortunately there will be some with issues right out of the box. Can you take it back to Walmart for an exchange?
What about on the other TVs in the house? If it works on one of those, it isn’t the box. Monster is a more name brand cord, but most HDMI hookups aren’t that dependent of a high dollar cord to work properly. It is more when you get into higher end video and audio where they can make a real difference.
Yes, if nothing else works, factory reset the box.
