Question: I’ve been making sure that I’ve completely force quit all apps except Proton VPN before shutting off my Nvidia Shield or Onn Pro devices, just as an intended security/privacy measure (in case the VPN drops or a power outage reboots the device without VPN). Is that actually a necessary or recommended best practice that I need to keep doing? And either way, I know it sounds lazy, but has anybody figured out a quicker/easier way to force quit apps other than the long “open menu/scroll to apps/select app/select forcequit/select ok/go back/repeat for next app” routine? On my Shield, I can double click the round remote button and close apps, but that doesn’t force quit them completely. Thanks.
Not sure if ATV has this feature but on my device running AOSP I just have to double click home button and it shows all the apps that are running and just keep clicking up on dpad and it closes them and only leaves the system apps running.
It’s similar to closing all apps on an Android phone.
Really handy quick without having to enter menu’s finding apps and closing them individually.
On the Shield(ATV)and SK1 (AOSP) you can go to settings>device preferences>storage>internal shared storage>cached data and click on it then click ok and all the cache will be cleared. Or get the TDUK apps that do it as well.
Thanks Miki. I’ll give the settings a try. Is there a source for the TDUK apps you can point me to?
Sorry Miki. Should have done my work looking on play store and posts before asking.
Lol. It’s all good my friend.
@finale541 ATV Tools does have a single button “clear cache”, for “forse stop” you need to select apps from the tools and you can forse quit for each app from the menu.
I use the the Background Apps & Processes list app.
There is a discussion on here about it not being in the store on the 4k Pro but it does works well on the 4k Pro, I keep it on my phone and install it as needed.
The TDUK app works well, been using it for a couple of months now. I think I’ll tweak it a little as far as what apps it clears though to see if it has any effect.
is there any way to get the tduk apps other than google play? big brother is blocking me because I need to update payment method and caught it security block loop
I never heard of that. You probably can get TCUD from Aptoid. You can download it from the Troypoint Toolbox.
My bad, I forgot the TDUK App Killer costs $1.99 so you can’t get it off of Apptoide.
I do use iOS version of the atvTools app but I don’t use it for closing apps that are running as it’s quicker to do with my device remote.
It is great app with some nice features though.
Sure, but you said you weren’t sure about that feature, I thought you ment “forse stop” so I was only clarifying that, I usually do it on my device as well.
The reason I like the Background Apps and Process list is depending on the OS you may not see all the apps that have been opened, on Google TV they don’t all appear in the recently used listing and when updates run they don’t appear in the recently used list. An example is Background Apps and Processes itself, on Android TV it appears in the recently used list, in Google TV you have to scroll down to all app, a pain in the arse in my opinion😏.
I meant I wasn’t sure android TV had the handy feature I have on AOSP for closing running apps in the background.
I haven’t owned a device with Android tv or google tv.
I have set a few up for people but I don’t really like the OS tbh.
Yes I can imagine that being a pain in the arse as well.
Typically, I force close all my apps except for the essential ones like my VPN daily. There are always and I need to sort this out, some apps, SPOTIFY that insist on starting on their own accord. Hello, I don’t use you, well not ever on my streaming devices. I just like to keep a clean device.
I’m using a Shield Pro now. But lately it has been more unreliable than my Onn Pro box. I’ve even factory reset it and reinstalled everything and still having issues with all Kodi apps. Must be the Alphabet overlords.
I see users on Reddit mention this issue.
I see users have mentioned running older versions of firmware has fixed the issue as new versions have slowed their shields down especially trying to run their Kodi builds.
I think the link is shown on the TDUK youtube page
Finally breached googles black gate to Mordor to get the tduk apps!
