Thanks Powerfader, not trying to be a PITA but is the Verify app toggle actually located under security & restrictions on your system? On mine I have:
Unknown Sources (allows you to grant install access similar to with Downloader) - active
Make Passwords Visible - toggle
Allow all Bluetooth pair requests - toggle
Bluetooth LE Privacy - toggle
Category (blue header)
Create restricted profile
Just trying to figure out if I am missing something or the entire boat.

There is a verify apps in developer options but it is greyed out. In security and restrictions is allow unknown sources.

I tried delaying updates in my 2017 Nvidia Shield to prevent what others have discussed on this subject and it kept trying to update automatically when I turned it on anyway. I finally decided to pull the plug and sell mine due to Nvidia doing this. Also contributing to my decision, 1) all the home screen bloatware you canāt get rid of, 2) the limited internal memory, 3) inability to easily root the box and 4) lack of customization and apps. I find open android works much better, with fewer hassles and there are high quality boxes out there at less cost than Nvidia Shield.

All that can be solved. You can turn off automatic upgrade. You can also go into your system settings to the apps menu, show system apps, go to system update and force stop and turn off notifications. This will stop it from trying to update. At least until you unplug it and do a hard reboot.
The customization and getting rid of advertisements can be solved with Wolf Launcher.

Yeah, I am for the very first time actually considering leaving the Nvidia world. I just have a gut feeling things are going get progressively worse as Nvidia keeps chasing that big corporate $$$ via sponsoring their products on Nvidia devices. ā¦sad 
I will be doing that again. But I canāt right now. I have signed up for them to send their Hotfix images to fix their not so hot update!
It is psychologically tough to leave the Shield behind, especially when those of us who bought one had to justify the initial cost outlay to ourselves. There is no doubt that the hardware is the best and benchmark tests prove it. But to me, the drawbacks and aggravation mentioned here and elsewhere proved to be serious (and chronic) enough to convince me to cut it loose and get a rooted, open android device instead.

ā¦ Lucky for me I still had the return window open for meā¦so off it went and reason for return (they ask that)ā¦was terrible upgrade in conjuntion with bloat 
ā¦ I will never go with a big name again because its all about control. But with that said Wolf Launcher really does a good job cleaning up the surface bloatware. The shield really has no rival in graphics and rendering and speed. It really boils down to what do you wana do.

TIVIMATE BACKUPS AND RECORDINGS
Gonna post this here instead of creating a new topic, because this is related to the Android 11 update.
Ok, hereās the solution for storing backups and recording in Tivimate. When you go to do a backup for the first time use the feature named, āSystem Pickerā. Then go back to you file explore and scroll down to find it. Then you can rename the File. For recordings I made a file in the same place. Then the path for your recordings is set. Now with the backups. It seems you can select the folder but you stiil need to go through System Picker. Then you choose your folder from there and the backup will proceed as normal. I donāt understand why you must keep on selecting System Picker, but if you donāt then the backup will fail. Itās not that big of a deal. Just a couple of extra steps.

I hate to say it but eventually all boxes will be this way what we need to do is learn how to get around it so we can do what we want to do with them not what they allow us to do. With the amount of money invested in a good box I canāt afford to just get another one. I have been around quite awhile been through all the different ways and boxes getting codes and everything and there is always a fix for everything. I never let anything I have auto update from my phone to computer everything has to ask. This has been coming for a while and hate to say is only going to get worse . Keep streaming donāt let them win

I wonder what will eventually happen when android, google, apple, Windows and other major operating systems decide to stop allowing certain apps you want to even work unless you agree to allow continuing updates to their operating systems. Right now anyone with an older apple or windows device with āoutdatedā hardware canāt update their operating system beyond a certain point and as new versions of apps are released, they increasingly will not work with the older operating systems. This is engineered obsolescence and I fear eventually this will infect android devices over time. I hope I am wrong.

I personally donāt think you are wrong. A time will come where you buy a device to do a specific function and then have to pay for āmodulesā to expand the functionality. There are already proprietary OSs that ordinary ppl simply canāt hack and decode. But Iām an old fart and Iāve seen the electronic evolution from the first TVās to computers to robots, AI and āstreamingā. It took less than 50 yrs to get here and now our futures are being controlled by the Amazon and Google gods. Not sure what youāre all going to do, but I may have 15 to 20 years left and donāt see it getting better. Electronic revolution perhaps.

I am just a lay man on understanding all these technological battles, but I would put my money on it continuing to be a cat and mouse game of give and take. That is the beauty of the nature of fast paced technological change.
