No Sound from Soundbar with NVIDIA SHIELD

I have a new sonos arc sound bar which works fine on the apps on my tv but I cannot get any sound from my nvidia shield. I have a samsung 8 series tv and it has an ARC hdmi port which i connect directly to the sonos. How do i get sound from my nvidia shield. My shield is there latest iteration. I have played with every sound setting I can think of on both the TV and the shield to no avail. The sonos arc does not have a passthrough just 1 hdmi input cable. I am lost any help would be appreciated.

Have you enabled pas thru on thru TV or device?

Therein lies the rub, found that on my internet search but can find nothing that says passthrough on the TV,any idea as to what i would look for that allows passthrough, i have been all over the sound options and can find nothing that says anything close to that but am pretty sure that is the problem.

Read this. It should help with your settings.

Appreciate the help but i still get no sound from the sonos, picture is great but no noise. shield to tv via hdmi port 2 tv to sonos via port 4 ARC. tv to sonos works fine but no sound from the shield.

That is so weird. Ok. I hope you have some time. Here we go
Settings>Device Preferences>Display & Sound>Advanced sound settings>Audio Output>Available audio outputs>HDMI
Back out 1 screen and make sure HDMI-CEC Enable is on.
ALSO UNDER advanced sound settings make sure that under "Available formats you have “Auto” enabled I also enable Stereo Upmix. I also have Dolby audio processing, but to enable that you can’t be streaming anything. I also have Match Dolby/PCM audio levels.

Give those a try.

Also I plug my Shield into the HDMI in port on my soundbar then ARC out to ARC TV in.

Plug in a digital/optical cable from you tv to your sonos, that’s how I run both my sonos setups.

Seems to work this morning, Last night i unplugged my shield so i could watch a movie on an app on the TV which the sonos worked fine on, this morning i plugged the shield back in and pulled the arc hdmi to watch the news using the shield. After an hour or so I plugged the arc hdmi back in which caused the screen to go black for a second then it came back with my launch app screen which i did and viola had sound. Not sure if it was the reboot of the shield or the disconnect/reconnect of the hdmi that did it but all is good in sound land. Damn I love this troy site and so glad i became a patron. Special thanks to Miki and every one else that just stood up to offer assistance. You folks are truly the best

Woohooo. you got it. Trust me, we get just as much of a kick out of your success with device issues as you do, and thanks for letting us know as this gives us more knowledge to help others in the future. I now think I know exactly what happened. The HDMI port on your TV had an unresolved I/O request in it’s stack Q, and once you unplugged it and plugged it back in, that cleared the unanswered request, released the Que and refreshed the stack now allowing a new request and allowing it to complete that request successfully. I should have thought of that, but sometimes we get tunnel vision.
Well now enjoy your success and a very Merry Christmas to you and yours. :santa: :christmas_tree: :gift:

HDMI from device to Soundbar, HDMI eARC from soundbar to TV’s HDMI eARC

As I told him. Works for me. I wonder what tech is next? Mine doesn’t use the hdmi ARC out to TV or hdmi ARC in on TV. This new Samsung setup has a new “box” called the “one connect” box and all peripherals are plugged into it and it has one umbelical with a plug on the end similiar to the old way monitors connected to a tower. Pretty neat really. It auto switches inputs as needed and does all the config for ya. Getting easier every year.

The sonos arc does not have a passthrough, kinda week for such a high dollar sound bar only 1 hdmi.

The 8 series TV is a 5 or 6 year old tv, they got away from it as a lot of them went bad and there were a lot of switching issues with it. Given time to perfect it and it is a good idea, I do not think they make or use them anymore.
