Streaming services were once a cheap escape from expensive cable bills. That advantage keeps shrinking as more states add sales taxes to digital subscriptions. Over 30 states now collect revenue from streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and Spotify, with Maine joining the list on January 1, 2026. No taxes on KOD or Stremio!

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss. States scrambling for more revenue will continue to add more taxes to premium streaming services, which along with ever increasing monthly subscription prices, will eventually make them unaffordable for most consumers. Thank goodness there are other quality streaming choices available to cord cutters.
I know Illinois, specifically Chicago, is ramping up a “streaming tax” amongst a whole lot of other taxes and fees…
Interesting!……Wondering how on Earth the illinois or Chicago Gov’t would ever know what streaming services their residents use in order to enact this?
I suspect they mean verified IPTV services and regged companies.
Yep…All the main ones I’m guessing…I don’t live there anymore, but I’m pretty certain it will become a state wide thing…
They are also ramping up ride share taxes and adding a delivery tax, meaning, any package you get delivered, there will be an additional tax/fee, and may include Doordash/Grub Hub deliveries…
I’m used to it, being from NC. They tax everything twice if they can.

Just wait, they’ll figure something out. ![]()
And if they did we would move on to something new. One thing I’ve learned in this hobby is to accept change. If something breaks and it will there is always something else to get what you want
One reason to ditch the streaming stuff and go another route!
And take more long walks and naps
.
Long walks, I get up every morning and jog my memory, but I all for the nap idea
I’m trying to be healthier and bought a mongo size bag of almonds at Costco because almonds and walnuts are amongst the best nuts for us. I asked Chat AI the optimal amount of almonds per day and got 23 almonds. Not that this has anything to do with streaming and taxes but walking and napping lead to healthier lifestyles so Io thought I’d wedge my almonds info in here. I rounded up to 25 in this little cup so moving forward, I’ll fill it up to APPROXIMATELY 25 almonds per day and munch away. Then take a walk and finally a nap.
Don’t give them any ideas ![]()
