Got all my apps installed and initial review is that thing is perfect, other than the getting to the play store glitch. I followed Troy’s supercharge ONN guide (for the original ONN box) to free up some storage. Film+, Stremio, and TiviMate are glitch free despite it being pretty far from the moden/router (havn’t checked speeds yet, but they were low with the old Fire TV dongle i had there previously where I got some low speed buffering). Seems like a nice picture, but I’m using it on a small 1080p kitchen tv for now – easiest access to set up the box.
As you can see above, just set one up. Zero problems with the remote. Are you sure you aren’t talking about reviews from the initial batch of the ONN box that came out a year ago? Troy explained it was really important to update the remote on those boxes to fix some glitches. But the remote for this newest ONN box seems solid.
I appreciate your response!
The reviews im referring to our deemed the newest on Walmart website, for what appears to be the newest model, but they are pretty much align with 1-6 months of use and failed remote or box, but can always be user error I suppose.
Anyway, if there was a place to check it’s at troy point.com
I got new ONN yesterday, unboxed this afternoon. When all the updates finished the Google Play Store was there from the first time I opened. Maybe they fixed it and newer users get the Play Store?
Have some of these coming tomorrow! Is there a new setup guide available from TroyPoint? or should I just follow the old one? Could someone give me a link, I’m having issues finding it. Thank you!
Heres what I did for a friend who has the new onn box. I installed only tivimate and stremio on it, thats all he wanted because in his opinion all the other misc apps are what causes him issues…so I did. Then he wanted his other boxes (firesticks etc) for all the other apps. We did that and he is happy with no need for extra storage etc. He wanted one box that was dependable and so far this fit the need.
Did you check www.troypoint.com?
How to Jailbreak onn. Google TV 4K Android Box (2023 Guide) (troypoint.com)
I would think so. An update probably fixed the issue. Either that or you’re the only one that updated their box before using it, lol… seems unlikely.
Mine did an update when I first plugged it in for setup. No playstore on home page.
Same here I have no play Store App however I can access all the categories the Playstore has and all the Apps are there. Strange
I put Wolf Launcher on it and the PlayStore app was there.
Interesting, I was going to put Wolf on it this afternoon. Let’s see if that works
Aha, if that worked then probably all it was missing was the icon for the leanback launcher attribute. Wolf will fix that for sure.
Obvious glitch that Troy pointed out. Don’t think Google is in the business of hiding their Play Store. Did Bezos buy them? A buddy a long time ago got fired from a restaurant job and said if he won the lottery, he’d buy the restaurant across the street and offer free food.
You’re right. Google hiding their Play Store would almost be as crazy as Apple letting you install songs without iTunes. Big ole iOS piece of bloat, lol, will they EVER get rid of that boat anchor?
Thank you, I wasn’t using the right words in search. Got it now!
Did you install Wolf and did it make the Play Store icon show up on your homescreen?
I installed Wolf on initial setup and Play Store was there.
Yes, I was noticing a couple of other people said that as well. I was wondering if that solution worked for everyone. It’s good to know nevertheless… thanks!
They’re available from Amazon canada for about $60 and from Best Buy for about $85. I’m guessing Walmart thinks with our smaller market they can just sell us the higher priced stuff and we’ll just have to suck it up.
