whats up guys i am loving this shield pro still researching and playing with settings and side loading apps love the upscale setting i was just wondering has anyone tried a usb tv tuner and if so witch one would work the best plugged into usb port and hooked up to a over the air antenna and would the shield pro upscale the tv signal to a 4k tv i bet if we can do this the picture would look amazing i know some will say iptv service and not sure pro would upscale the iptv signal but why pay for something when i really only need my locals that i can get for free,(this has nothing to do with the pro not sure if anyone has tried a new nexgen tuner atsc 3.0 i have the zapperbox and there are 3 nexgen channels in my area but unless the are broadcasting in 4k really no different in picture quality only different is you get no pixalition on windy or storming days) ,i also have a new km6 i have yet to play with but the upscale on the shield pro to me will be my new streaming device
That’s a neat little tuner.
I use it on my server not on my Shield. It works well with Plex and that is how we watch regular TV. Each Plex app on our devices uses the tuner from the server to access them.
Dang AMD…sounds like you’ve got about as many toys as Ron…are y’all neighbors?
I decided a while back I was going to set my home network up with more “verified” devices as well as the more “unverified”…just in case. Bought a really nice Channelmaster antenna and installed it in my attic. Turned an old gaming desktop that I built from scratch into a media server. Cool thing about hooking up the tuner onto the server and using Plex for the OTA channels is you can watch it anywhere…on your cell, tablet, laptop, etc.
Yep…you & Ron are cut from the same cloth…I wasn’t in, but was friends with several of the Audio/Visual club nerds back in high school…they were just ahead of their time for today’s tech…ha ha. It’s just me & my puppy dog so I don’t have a need for a Dr. Emmet Brown setup…
I was in every sport growing up but always had a passion for technology. The first real personal mod project was in 7th grade my tech teacher taught me how to solder a mod kit onto the motherboard of my PS2. Since then, I was hooked lol. I think that is why I take cord-cutting to more of a hobby and I am constantly tinkering around. My wife calls me a geek, but since I work full time and have a second kid on the way, I only have limited times I can nerd out.
I do pretty much what @AMD237 is doing, similar setup. I use the HDhomerun dual lites as my tv tuners and they work well with emby asd well as plex. Nvidea Shield has a special relationship with the google app Live Channels. They have built the live channels app to work within the nvidea system rather well more so than any other box.
With a tv tuner and live channels app it will automatically detect the various channels and if you have attached storage it will even assist with setting up recording…no other box does that. On top of that download pluto, zumo and a few other apps and the live channel app will add all your favorites together…its a win win
Which one of y’all has the bigger pickup truck?
I’ve always tinkered…mostly back in the “ala carte your sound system & band stuff” with all kinds of different brands & cool stuff…gotta spend yer time & on somethin’ fun.
i guess i will have to do some reading about plex and live channels i also have a tablo 4 tuner hooked up to my main tv i can record up to 4 shows at the same time not that i do i have outside antenna that rotates that is over 30 yrs old amplified to a channel master 1 in 8 out powered distribution box running to 7 tv’s throught the house i get about 60 channels i like to tinker too i miss the old days playing around with satellites receivers and programing cards
Yea I also have a tablo and truth be told, its my goto to watch recordings. Main reason is it just works with never an issue or hassel. I prefer it over everything else just for that. I have a copy of John Wayne’s The Cowboys protected from removal …I know…crazy
