Netflix sound drop outs on shield tv [tube]

Hi
I’ve done a search cannot find anything on this particular subject.
I’ve had the shield for about eight months and on my third Receiver, as I have completely upgraded my system again.
I have an LG 65 G3 TV
A Yamaha A6A Receiver
Shield TV 2019
2.1 HDMI cables
Upgraded my speakers as well
Netflix Premium sub.
I’ve been checking on the net for the eight months tried everything i’ve found suggested, nothing has solved the problem.
Is there anybody here that can help without me listing everything i’ve tried.

Thought that i should add, I have all the sound codecs are checked on the Shield as the system does 'em all.
I also have Dolby Vision and Atmos enabled although I only have a 5.1 setup.
I had a problem with Dolby Vision not being detected, but discovered that if I did a Force Stop and cleared the cache Dolby vision is now working

Not entirely sure what you mean by “drops out”. Does this mean you have sound but then it quits after a certain length of time? Have you turned on audio pass through?

Hello Mate, thanks for the response.
Yes! I mean intermittently the sound drops out on Netflix, been driving me nuts for 8 or 9 months.
And yes! I do have passthrough turned on.
I’ve just swapped over the HDMI inputs on the Receiver.
HDMI 1 Now Bluray [never really used]
HDMI 2 Now Sky Q
HDMI 3 Now Shield
HDMI 4 Max 4k [ really only for test purposes]

I’m also assuming you are plugged onto the eARC or ARC HDMI port. I’ll have to do some research on your Yamaha receiver and check out it’s specs and ports.

Thanks bruv
Yeah it’s on Earc.
State of the arts my system lol

Ok then perhaps you can answer some questions. Does your Yamaha have HDMI ports. If so it should also have an eArc port. I plug my Shield into my hdmi port on my soundbar and then the HDMI eARC out to the eArc on the TV. I don’t plug my shield directly into the TV.

But of course mate.
7 inputs 2 out
the 4 i use are as listed above, that leaves 4 inputs spare.
as I say i only really use 2 inputs HDMI 2 SKY Q, HDMI 3 now the SHIELD
I have audio routed via the HDMI and the TV audio disabled.
I have just the 1 output from receiver to TV HDMI 2 with earc enabled.

just as a side note HDMI 1 is listed as MOVIES and HDMI 2 is listed as CBL/SAT
So as I say i’ve moved the Shield to HDMI 3, I was having problems again the Dolby Vision, so i’ve done yet another cache clearance and Dolby Vision is working, I now do believe that the 2 faults are connected.

Well that seems to eliminate any hardware issue, as I assume you have hi speed HDMI cables as you’ve done everything else right including codecs and updates, from there the only thing really left is software and again I assume you’ve tested the various audio presets from movie to concert to theater. Sorry M8 that’s me out. I was pretty sure it was an inputs issue.

Thanks for your effort bruv.
But yes all that stuff ive tried, just hoping you might be able to mention something I havn’t tried.
It’s a subject that been well documented on the net, one person says this worked for him another says’ that worked for him and so on and so on.

Just forgot to mention, whilst we’ve been posting and as I said I swapped the connections around, the Shield is now on HDMI 3 from HDMI 1 and so far no glitches… lets give it some hours though as this can happen.

I feel your pain my friend. I honestly wish I had the silver bullet but with what you’ve done I can’t think of anything. I am going to see if I can find anything on the net but suspect you did that as well. If I can find anything I’ll get back to you. TTFN.

Thank you
Another thing on my 2 previous receivers which was a Yamaha RX1070 then a Denon X3800H on the display would quickly flash on and off “decoder off”
Haven’t been able to find out any more on this

I also have been having this problem with Hulu. Not sure about Netflix. Not on my Shield, but Fire Cube. I tried different things, but the simple fix for me was to just unplug the tv (Samsung) and my Fire Cube, then plug it back in and that seemed to work.
Hope this works for you bc too have trouble shot everything else.

Thnx for the reply.
For the moment it’s stopped doing it, the only thing i’ve changed this time is.
I’ve been looking at alternative boxes that might perform better the Mekool and the Ugoos but whilst reading up on Troy’s review, there is in the setup an option in developers option, regarding scaling I changed the three options to 1.5 as suggested, and so now the audio is not disconnecting.
Might be nothing to do with the scaling, but as I say the drop outs have stopped…long may it continue :star_struck:
