Well you’re correct I pay the upgrad for no ads. You don’t feel it’s worth it. . fine. I also do so on Prime Video. These are the two most popular movie/tv streaming apps. I don’t like having to pay for no-ads I’ve stated this, but sometimes it may be worth it?? You can get adds for $7/mo or no ads for $18/mo and add another member for $7. Thank you for correcting?
LOL sorry but this is a cord cutters forum. You are not going to get many here that support Netflix and/or paying a premium to not see ads. I cannot stand ads and will not watch them under any circumstance on my VOD movies/shows. We have KODI and Stremio for this. Yes I tolerate Ads while watching Live Sports and News
So $25 a month for Netflix with no ads…no thanks Peacock premium, Paramaount Plus w/Showtime Amazon Prime, Hulu with no ads,Max ad free are all cheaper than that. Point being Netflix is not worth the price to me.
But if you are happy with it that’s fine. I merely wanted to point out that Netflix does indeed have ads and is one of the more expensive services out there these days.
I can’t understand why on their website prices range from $7.99 to $24.99.
I just received my notice that NetFlix was increasing to $17.99 a month. I just cancelled. I tried to find out why such a price range and never did.
“to each his own”. . I get it you’re not a fan of Netflix’s streaming fare. While IMO it used to be the best, it’s been reasonably challenged by the other streaming services, including self-produced movies/tv shows. I have Prime Video, Apple TV, Peacock, Max, Showtime, Paramount+, PBS Passport, and any other ad streaming video sites, besides my side-loaded fire sticks. . .and I find I use Netflix more than any other service. Maybe I’m just looking their first, but any new (interesting to me) series I find on Netflix, and if pay-per-view, I go to the fire stick.
I’m dumping my Xfinity Comcast cable (Peacock free, Showtime/Max) and will be going to more all inclusive streaming service like Hulu but must have local channels. . Suggestions?
Everybody is different so these kinds of questions are more about what you want, still, here is my two cents ![]()
If you don’t have an antenna and even if you do… Hulu is good, covers Fox and ABC a long with some cable channels like FX as well as some good Korean series. Peacock isn’t great but does cover NBC of course, Paramount Plus is actually pretty good IMHO and covers CBS.
However, my favorite service is Apple Plus mostly high quality original content.
I have Netflix but I am close to dumping it, this last rate hike really is annoying. They add content all the time but the overall quality isn’t what it use to be, again IMHO.
I dropped both Paramount Plus and Peacock and during Black Friday they both sent me offers, Peacock ad free, one year 20$ and Paramount Plus w/showtime ad free for 60$ so… I’ll probably drop both when they expire.
Geez all those streaming services sound like my $200+ Cable Bill several years ago before I dumped them. KODI or Stremio + Real Debrid + Trakt + a good IPTV service for less than $10/month gives you everything you are getting on all these streaming services and more. and most is commercial Free to boot! Just saying this IS a cord cutters site
I don’t think cord cutters means strictly
content.
If everyone did that, there wouldn’t be any content left to watch with the companies making it having no profit.
$7.99 is basic plan with ads, and some content not available.
$17.99(still $15.49) is Standard no ads, 1080p, 2 connections.
$24.99 is Premium no ads, 4k, 4 connections.
lol $25 for 4k content. They can keep it, I get loads of 4k content way cheaper than that.
Thank You!
Netflix ordered to pay back millions of subscribers in landmark ruling | Android Central Netflix ordered to pay back millions .
I hope they do have to pay back millions! I’m also glad they lost out on WBD to Paramount. I honestly don’t understand how Netflix thinks that their content is worth what they ask for it.
@teehar , you know people use it for the simplicity of use….pay the price, log in, pick movie/show, watch….not much effort required….so they have a captive audience….

This is true and represents the vast majority of the target audience among current subs.
Ease of use, very refined and friendly UI, huge library with predictive user content, and nearly zero downtime. They also continue to spend billion$ in new, original content.
That’s why people are glad to pay and that’s why Netflix has the largest sub base despite frequent price hikes.
Streamers like those of us here are in the teeny minority.
They’ll eventually break the bank mark my words. And I know plenty of streamers that have given netflix the middle finger, including myself. Their content isn’t that good. Paramount plus and Peacock, also Amazon Prime are great alternatives to the overpriced netflix. Heck even Hulu/Disney is another alternative. I presonally wouldn’t mind seeing netflix go bankrupt.
Netflix stock is down 30%. Here are 3 warning signs for investors..
The quality of their content, original exclusive or not, is purely subjective.
Is it overly pricey? All the services are expensive and continue to rise as with many other things. The cost of Prime, Hulu/Dis+, Apple, and all other others are just as pricey if not more. Netflix is aligned with the rest of them, imo.
However…Netflix and Apple are the notable ones that I see that are showing consistent investment in content.
Now whether one believes if titles like Stranger Things, Wednesday, Grey Man, Red Notice, War Machine, F1, Napoleon, etc. are worthwhile investments are, again, subjective. The cost of star power and top tier production isn’t cheap and decisions to gamble customer sourced revenue on such will always be a game decided by viewership and subscription durability.
I’m sure there are far more approvers than there are shipjumpers still.
But…that’s how the other side lives. Here, we all just play judges while we watch from afar.

Oh, I forgot…yes, Netflix stock is down. However most of the root cause of this is due to the fiasco sale of Warner Bros studios. If WB would have honored the original acquisition agreement they had with Netflix, their stock would be telling a different story right now.
Do I sound like a Netflix fan boy right now? I’m sure I do… and for previously mentioned reasons, I’m somewhat in that camp (and maintain an active sub for years).
There are a bit of good that they’ve created that I do like and can appreciate, for sure.
Would I be a loyal “regular” sub and gladly pay for such sample sized portions of good? Nope. I have to be smarter with my money.
I only have it because Tmobile gives it to me for free, though with their price hikes over the years, I’m on the hook for a couple bucks now. TMo gives away Hulu for free also.
Sooner or later, the trickle down of the price hikes that tmobile won’t pony up for will surely price me out of the big red boat also. For now, I’m okay throwing them a few bits so they can pay the likes of Charlize Theron, Chris Pratt, Chris Hemsworth, etc.
If nothing else, it keeps my wife easily occupied without the risk of her screwing up my typical streaming setup and the need for me to get up and fix those situations each time.
That’s just me thinking out aloud again. ![]()
Well keep your overpriced Netflix fan boi lol I despise it
and do some price comparisons, Paramount, Peacock, and Prime are way cheaper than netflix. They also don’t upcharge for higher quality content.
Lol, fair enough.
However…your observations are not completely accurate.
Amazon Prime does upcharge for premium 4K content. It’s part of their ultra tier if you want UHD res content. +$4.99
Disney+ 4K only available on premium ad free tier.
Paramount+. Same as above.
Peacock. Cheapest and 4K content included across standard and premium tiers, but low content catalog.
Most “with ads” tiers across majority of services are usually between $8-$10, except Peacock (least amount of content).
…but who’s counting? ![]()
I get the Stremio discount.
