I could really use some help or advice because I’m at my wits’ end trying to make this new setup work smoothly. For the past few years, I’ve slowly gotten into streaming. My setup used to be:
Samsung 65” TV
DirecTV
Nvidia Shield Pro (added a couple of years ago)
Everything worked great, I could easily switch inputs and control everything with my DirecTV remote.
About three months ago, we upgraded to a new LG 77” TV, and that’s when the problems started. The LG operating system (webOS) seems to want to control everything, which makes using other remotes nearly impossible.
Now, if I want to switch from HDMI 1 (DirecTV) to HDMI 3 (Nvidia Shield), I have to press three buttons on the LG remote just to get there. Before, I could simply hold a button on the DirecTV remote and change inputs instantly. Super convenient!
Has anyone else run into this issue with LG’s software or input switching? Any tips or workarounds to make it less of a hassle?
I’ve been thinking about trying a Sofabaton remote, but I’m open to any suggestions.
Make sure CEC (consumer electronics control) is turned on on all of your devices; I think LG calls it SIMPLINK.
You theoretically should just have to push the home button on your Shield and it would turn on and switch to the Shield’s input but there can be Voodoo involved with CEC.
Thank you Scooby! CEC is turned on and regarding the Shield, when I used the Samsung, that worked. I would hit the Power button on the Shield remote and the TV would switch inputs and everything was clean. That doesn’t work any longer for some odd reason.
I know for a fact that the Shield will work like that with a 2023 LG since it did with mine. I never touched the TV remote. But unfortunately, I don’t have my Shield hooked up right now and can’t find the power supply for it to test right now.
Double check the CEC setting on the Shield, I remember it has detailed CEC settings.
Also check in this thread, maybe someone can help. Sorry I couldn’t help more.
I took the plunge with SofaBaton. It takes a bit to setup and I had many devices and a handful of remotes that was so frustrating! So I have felt your pain, but no longer. It has solved all my remote issues and is reliable and has exceeded my expectations at every level. Good Luck to You
This is probably not the exact solution you want to hear, because it will cost you a bit more money! Since I wasn’t happy with the sound coming from the TV anyway, buying a soundbar took care of improving the sound, and being able to connect the TV and two other devices to the soundbar. I use a Sofabaton remote to control all three devices, plus the soundbar. I run my TV, nVidia Shield Pro, and a ROKU box through HDMI connections on my soundbar. Easy to switch between HDMI connections and control all your devices with one remote, AND it sounds better!
Thank you for your reply! I tried the Sofabaton last year and was unable to find a profile to match or control my Shield. Could you tell me what profile you use? Or post it somehow so I can download it? Also, which model Sofabaton do you use? X1S, X2, or U2?
I have had very frustrating issues with CEC on my Hisense U8H, which used to work perfectly by pressing the Home button on Roku, Firetick, Onn to change to that input….. until it didn’t work.!!!
I think I had switched HDMI cables from one box to another, that may have started the issues, not sure.
Home button would work sometimes, sometimes not,it might have the wrong labels listed on the Hisense INPUT screen, etc etc.
You have a new TV so there should be no leftover CEC routings etc
BUT this is what I had to do.
Solution:
Unplug power from the TV set.
Hold down TV POWER button for 10 seconds to drain the capacitor.
This should clear all CEC routing, control information from the TV.
Unplug all HDMI inputs from the TV.
Unplug all streaming boxes from power.
Wait a minute or two.
Replug the TV and start with One HDMI input at a time, make sure Home button works.

A real pain in the butt since my TVis in a recessed alcove and is hard to get behind it to do all this unplugging and replugging….. BUT IT WORKED.
Got the U1 because all 9 codes of the ONN 4K remote would not control my Denon AVR. So the SofaBaton controls the ONN 4k AND the Denon receiver. You get used to scrolling between devices with the thumb wheel. What sold me on the SofaBaton was its IR and bluetooth capabilities.
It appears that LG wants to ensure you are certain about switching inputs. I agree that LG’s software will intervene at any time it sees an opportunity. That is what my LG web does any time I make a mistake of any kind with my remote, LG tries to take over.
LG CEC or SIMPLINK is the “weird cousin” of CEC. If I hook my Firecube and AM6b+ to my LG at the same time turning either on will turn on the TV and the other box and they will begin an endless tug-o-war where they constantly switch the input back and forth. It will go on endlessly and requies multiple interventions with the TV remote to stop. Same settup on Samsung, Vizeo and TCl is no problem. They really need to give more oprions in CEC actions.
I WebOS two on my LG. Having problems like this might be to the version of web West that I don’t have. But I am certain absolutely certain, but if you go into settings somewhere in there under General Bible settings, there is something to disable whatever problem not an issue. I don’t have developer options install. I’ve used a few test programs. These are installed from LG application site. Everything looks fine even some of the home brew stuff absolutely fine so I’m not sure what your issue is and recheck your settings otherwise we reset the TV and carefully read what is being asked of you agree whatever you agreed to disagree is she understand it select good luck
