MeCool KM2 won’t connect to Google Servers

Hi Guys
I got an email from tech support staying there is an OTA update for KM2 to go from android 10 to 12 I haven’t tried it yet as android ten is working fine has anyone on here tried it yet.
Regards
Bill

No I haven’t. I have not seen anything yet regarding an OTA for upgrading to And12. Wonder if they have a fix for my WiFi connection issues. Turns out my issue isn’t with my WiFi, but with the WiFi on the KM2+.

Reverted back to my old FS 4K and have had no issues with SS disconnecting at any time. So it looks like the WiFi in my box is faulty.

Too many low cost options available to keep fooling with Mecool. It worked great for 2 years, now it’s a paperweight. I’m moving on.

Mine still working fine, I can get app updates from the playstore. Lucky I guess. Sorry you guys are having problems. I will remember this just in case.

I hope it’s just something that can be fixed though.

Hi Timelord
I have a KM 2 which has a intermittent wi fi drop out and sometimes it work fine with 200mgb download speeds then on other occasions it drops to 12mgb. My broadband is solid and another KM 2 is also solid download of 200mgb. I have been in contact with Mecool engineers and they think it’s indeed a hardware problem. I am a TV engineer by trade and suggested it may be a badly soldered Wi Fi aerial connection. I offered to open it up to have a look but he said that would void my warranty and I should send it back for replacement or else get Mecool to give me credit .Postage would cost me about 25 to 28 dollars so not cost effective. They offered me points on my account so I asked what value these points would be and I am waiting on their reply.

I did the update posted and mine is still working just fine. Knock on wood, no WiFi issues at the moment as well

Thanks for the info. Please keep me posted. Personally, I think they should just send us new boxes and write-off the defective models, rather than give us credit or have us send back the box to have it replaced. It would be less expensive for us and them and show excellent customer service / support, by standing behind their products.

Just my 2 cents.

So Mecool has issued an OTA upgrade? Is it available to all or only select markets. I’m in Canada, so want to know if it is available for me or not. Thx.

No Problem’
I agree totally but they won’t do that. If they give me a reasonable amount of credit I will accept it and then try and repair the box myself. If not I may have to send it back intact so that they will honour the warranty. Also on the other matter they only pushed the android twelve software to this particular box. I tried another KM 2 to see if there was an update but nothing there.

Cheers

Wasn’t a system update I installed. It was the update to reconnect to Google servers to get my remote paired

Had the same prob, my solution (though more extreme and time consuming) to factory reset and set up my Mecool all over again has fixed the problem and has the KM2 working at peak condition.

Did you have to go through the whole process to get updated APK and firmware from Tech Support when you did the factory reset? I know when I did mine, I had to dig on Reddit and through tech support to finally get the appropriate APK patch and eventually a full version of the C2.4.5 firmware update for my device.

Unfortunately did not fix the faulty wifi antenna connection, which I am at a loss on how to fix without returning the box and paying to ship it to have them send me a new one or opening it up and trying to fix it myself…which I am not too keen on doing in the first place… can’t solder worth sh*t…LOL!!!

No I have had zero trouble I did the factory reset and then reloaded all my apps including wolf launcher and stremio. I have not put syncler on it. But it’s updated and running better than before.

So what the latest with yours, is it just a Canadian issue or something with your box itself?

Hi goys there is definitely an OTA update to android 12 now it may solve some issues but not the Wi Fi one which is as I suspect bad soldering on the antenna. I would wait until the box is out of warranty ( in case of other faults ) and then try and re -solder the antenna.

Thanks for the information. So, I did the factory reset, but because there were no OTA updates available to bring the firmware up to C2.4.5, it reset it completely to C2.0.1 I think. Due to that, I had issues connecting to Google Servers, so Tech Support provided me with an APK to fix it. However, it still didn’t bring me up to the most updated firmware, so TS sent me the full firmware update which brought me to what I am currently running (C2.4.5). So I don’t know whether or not if I did another factory reset if I would go back to C2.0.1 or if it would stay at C24.5 .

What I do know is that there is still a WiFi signal issue, whether it is a bad antenna or something, but even with a WiFi extender connected literally a foot away, it still drops the WiFi signal. I haven’t tried connecting it via Ethernet to the range extender to see if that would fix the signal drop. Planning on doing that over the weekend, now that the range extender has been configured to my new router and is connected close enough to run an ethernet cable from. Let you know.

As for any updates via OTA, up here in Canada I have yet to see any OTA updates for my Mecool…so not sure if it’s a Mecool issue or just a “because we’re in Canada” thing. Cheers.

Hi
Yes I just plugged in a new Km2 and went to settings–device settings–about–system update and got first of all your system is up to date then system update appeared and started loading the android 12 software.

Cool. I will have to check that out. Cheers.

If you think the antennae problem is hardware related, you could try the oven trick and this presumably wouldn’t void a warrantee. Turn your oven onto the lowest setting (mine is 170 degrees F) and stick the box in there for 30 minutes. Presumably this loosens and resets the solder connections. Worth a try if the alternative is a paper weight.

Hi Guys putting it into the oven is not recommended as the plastic cover could be damaged and also a proper re flow is done in a computer controlled unit which heats to the correct temperature and cools at at slow rate. The unit is still working on ethernet now but may not after the oven trick .If you aren’t going to send it back under guarantee I would recommend giving it to a qualified TV engineer to re-solder the antenna with leaded solder. I have one which has the low Wi Fi issue myself and I am going to re-solder it myself (being a TV engineer by trade) as I have no intention of sending it back to China. I will update afterwards with my results.
