Mark as Watched

I have a clean install of Kodi 19.4 (kodi-19.4-Matrix-armeabi-v7a) on a Fire TV, with the default skin and the Crew (https://team-crew.github.io) addon. All seems to work fine, but the shows do not indicate (with a checkmark) that they have been watched - nor if I manually select “mark as watched” does a checkmark appear. Does anyone else have this problem or know of a solution?

I did not have this problem on Kodi 18, but that quit working for me.

Do you have a Trakt account? Real-Debrid account. Make sure to authorize both in The Crew then at very least it will keep progress of TV shows/movies you have watched.

I do not have Trakt. I did not have it before and the tick marks worked fine. Is Kodi or Crew now requring Tract for their features to work correctly?

I’ve only known check marks to be a result of using Trakt - if you use it, it will keep progress of your watched TV shows/movies.

Move to the left while on the shows page. A menu will open You can change view to watched, unwatched, and i think or checked. I’m not at my tv right now to double check.

There is a view watched, unwatched, or (I think) all. Those filters have no affect. It apparently does not realize shows have been watched.

Seren has a better control for watched… but id use trakt if you want this feature.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I understand that Trakt is either free with ads or a monthly fee. Why should a person have to contend with ads or pay a fee for a feature that should work without it. I do not otherwise need Trakt as I only use this one device.
I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem with Kodi 19 (who is NOT using Trakt). If not, maybe I need to factory reset my Fire TV and start over.

I will correct you. Because you’re wrong and having a tone yet you’re asking for help.

Trakt has nothing to do with ads that I’m aware of. It’s free to create an account. You sync your app or your Kodi addon with your account and it keeps track of what you watch and what you add to your “collection”. Super simple. There is a premium option but I have no idea what additional benefits you get.

If you had Kodi setup before without Trakt and it somehow kept track of what you watched then it was probably storing that data on your device somewhere. That will use up your storage space and it doesn’t allow you to sync information between different devices. Once you delete the data it’s gone forever.

I was just going by what I had read:
“Trakt TV + Fire TV Stick
Trakt TV is free, but the (free) standard version will display occasional ads and pop-ups.”
This is one example from https://www.online-tech-tips.com/
“Trakt is a freemium service. The free version of Trakt is ad-supported. You can buy the ad-free, VIP premium service for the plans starting at $2.50 per month.”
If that is wrong, I apologise.

The addon controls any ads or popups. I don’t know how it would even be possible for Trakt to force ads. They aren’t the ones providing the streams.

Like I said, if you had Kodi setup before to track your watched episodes then it was storing that information locally. When you do a fresh install all that data is gone. Usually when you update Kodi you can keep your data. But there was a big change with the code between Kodi 18 and Kodi 19. It was not possible to just do an update.

You would be authorizing your Trakt account with an addon. You wouldn’t be using the actual Trakt app or website where they would be showing the ads.

OK, thanks. Will try thiat.

i have never had a trakt acct. the crew in kodi 18 would checkmark watched movies/tv show episodes but stopped in kodi 19. The Oath (kodi 19) would checkmark watched movies/tv episodes even after the dev took it down. it was one of the features i liked about the Oath( my favorite addon) i wish nightwing could add this feature. thanks

I’ve used Trakt for years and love it (And no I don’t get any commission from Trakt ) I add shows/movies directly to my Trakt Account on my PC and they are then synced in KODI. when I go to my Trakt collection or watchlist from within KODI on my android Box to watch I am not in Trakt, and there are no Trakt adds within KODI. And yes after I watch a show or movie it places a checkmark as having been watched. KODI + Real Debrid + Trakt is a great setup for anyone

Thanks for the confirmation. That is basically my experience, too. I think it is likely some data parameters not being passed between the addon and the particular version of Kodi. As suggested, at this point, a Trakt account may be the only solution.

trakt’d is essential in the world wide cord cutting universe. Agree with Jay/Dracoo. Trust me you want trakt’d. You probably havent cleared your data… Using a firestick at some point you will have to do that as the memory isnt the largest. I use trakt’d in every app and never experienced an ad. Must mean you get adds from using the trakt site itself which you arent doing using kodi/crew or any other add-on thru kodi. Goodluck my friend

I keep the Trakt website loaded on one of the tabs in my phone’s browser. The other day someone told me about a show I would be interested. Took me 10 seconds to look it up on Trakt and add it to my collection. Even though I forgot about the conversation, the show was right there in my home screen widget the next time I used Kodi.

Just to be clear, marked as watched on the crew did work, but at any point as mentioned above if data was cleared it will mess up. The reason people are pushing trakt is because trakt is easier for keeping… well trakt… aha its not filled with ads nor do you need to buy it. Saving your shows to favs should help with marking your progress. If not trakt with kodi is the way to go.

Actually - when I upgraded to Kodi 19, months ago, I lost the watched check mark. I downgraded back to Kodi 18 and it worked again. I am now forced to go to Kodi 19 now because of addon issues, and the watched mark was again not working.
