Looking for new devices, junking firestick

Have looked at Oon, HK1, Ugoos, Buzz Tv and; others, HK1 is listed at 4GB Ram, 64 GB storage and is only $20 more the Oon. Ugoos is about $200, which might be out of my range. Have major project first getting rid of comcast and going to other internet providers. Just interested in thoughts on a couple of these devices on bang for the buck before I buy,

Thanks

Onn boxes the best buy out there! Google 4K Streamer on sale today on Prime for $ 74.99 not a bad option either.

Thanks

I will echo Throttlejockey. I acquired Onn 4k plus couple months back and have been running it side by side with Formuler 11 max pro. I am very impressed with the little Onn. It eliminates need for expensive box as it performs so well.

YMMV

+1 for the Onn (4k Plus or 4k Pro2). Unless you are concerned about Google following Amazon’s lead. In which case just get an Android TV (not Google TV) box.

Agree with everyone here on getting a Google TV/Android TV device like an Onn 4K device (if available for you). See this - Best Android TV/Google TV Boxes in 2026 (Goodbye Fire TV)

Agree 100% with your comments. With the continuing increase in costs for chips, hardware and product development, what was once a no-brainer is becoming more difficult in terms of spending more money for an upper tier android tv device. I bought 2 Ugoos AM9s and an SK1 between $160 and $209 back in 2024 and 2025, Now they go between $210 and $300, if you can find them. The Formuler Z12 Ultra is now $260 at Amazon and they are running out of stock. The Onn 4K is more and more the way to go for folks who have finally faced reality and are ditching their firesticks.

It’s just so hard to recommend a device that is so difficult to find. I’m still wondering what Walmart was thinking 6 month ago when the Fire Stick was going through the changes.

There’s literally over a million retail SKU’s at Walmart. I doubt anyone in Walmart executive management has any idea what is going on with the Firestick. Well maybe if they are a member of the Insider! Seriously most people not on a site like this have any idea

That’s why they have minions that are responsible for sharing where the market is going. Walmart isn’t run by a couple of door greaters. Gosh, even when I bought my ONN Pro, over a year ago they were rare to find. That rings a bell to all the above on the corporate ladder that something is up.

I am sure about that, just trying to get the best bang for the buck. In process of switching internet carriers, so trying to see what works, Just purchased a router from flashrouters to put my VPN on the router, now have to get everything to work. Thanks for the replies.

Take a look at Mint Mobile internet. Exactly the same as T-Mobile ( but cheaper) since T-Mobile bought Mint. Super easy to install. I get speeds from 300-100, varies through the day. Right now running at 172.

I’ve used a few androids (dumped the fire stick) and eventually was introduced to the Buzz TV e5, 32 GB box subscribing to my stream provider and they loaded their app on the box (I paid $200 for the box + a subscription) with the streaming credentials. That was 5 years ago and I’ve had the Buzz box ever since and it works great. I’m considering moving up to a higher grade (their top model) that has 16GB RAM and 128 GB of storage. I haven’t used the other popular androids because I’m happy with the Buzz Box. Hope that helps a bit!

The Oon boxes do the side load like a firestick?

@anj4202 , yes, you can add pretty much what you want to the Onn 4K Pro or 4K Plus box …and here’s a good place to start…

I agree completely on the ONN boxes - plenty of bang for the buck!!!
