Hello, I have a question. I was watching Stremio yesterday. Had the VPN on the whole time and Xfinity sent me a couple of emails saying I have a copywrite infringement. I have the kill switch on for the Surfshark, so how did this happen? Is Surfshark not a good VPN? I use to use IPVanish, maybe I should go back to them?
I’m a big believer in testing the connection once a vpn is installed. Surfshark is not the issue imho and most likely setup is/was. Many like to use monitor dot to check or another similar app. I prefer to use anality to verify.
Shark also has their own dns leak test via their web portal.
Can not mention movies or tv shows by name.
Nice! I didn’t know SS had that. Thanks for the heads up!
I’ve been skeptical about using the same companies DNS leak test for some reason. Lol They know you’re connected to their VPN. If not, do they try and give a false positive sometimes to sell you? Highly unlikely, but that’s just me. Lol
Well, I first checked on my laptop connected via Wi-Fi and because I did not have my VPN enabled it showed a whole bunch of DNS leaks in big bold red letters. Then I used my browser on my device and went to the site and checked that device and it showed no DNS leaks, my ip address showed in another city and state.
I also checked using 3 different detectors with and without my VPN on and they all reported the same info for each event.
Summary, I think the SS one is as legit as the other three.
Thank you. I tried the monitor dot, but it stays green whether or not SS is on or off! Very confusing, can u suggest some monitor dots maybe, plz?
There is the privacy dot also found in the Troypoint Toolbox but I like you do not really trust the dots … just me maybe
I run everything through my router and manually check/watch my connections…yea its a little more work but no bother to me as im always up to sumthin’ anyways
I think I figured it out! I was going to uninstall SS, but cleared the cache and data instead. When I did, the VPN dot turned red and then green when I logged back into SS. Should I do that once a week or so, clear the cache and data?
Try installing Launch on boot and install fast task killer and set FTK to launch on boot.
Clearing cache I understand. But clearing Data removes configuration and login details. If you cleared the Data and actually managed to improve your SS speeds, then for me that might indicate you aren’t using the most optimized protocol for your ISP. Every time I try a new VPN I spend a couple of hours testing protocols and location settings to find the sweet spot. A rarely looked into aspect of a VPN that affects speeds is the MTU. This number will differ from WiFi to ethernet, so if your VPN allows you to change this, my ProtonVPN does, you can experiment with settings. gl2u btw my MTU that works best is 1482 and everyone may gind a better number for their location and equipment.
I didn’t know what to do, but I’ll just do the cache. Thank you for ur assistance!
The SS kill switch seems to work…for me anyway. The monitor dot is just kind of a habit and a feel good. And I believe it will stay green when the kill switch gets switched because SS is still active but not working because the kill switch killed the internet connection.
still confused … how about a simple answer !
Simple answer to what?
the issues with surfshark can it be trusted or what? i use the green dot a swell
