Troy referred to Abine Blur in link for their masked credit card feature - when making payments to streaming - unverified - providers, etc.
I have been using Ironvest for masked emails - using their free “subscription”.
They have two paid level subscriptions which include masked credit cards.
I was curious if anyone has experience with Ironvest cards or comparative information?
(btw I am aware that Ironvest has paused their masked credit cards from 1-20-24 returning March 2024)
Thanks!
Hello @jfazny these businesses are the same. Abine Blur became Ironvest.
Well - thanks for that answer! Just out of curiosity - since neither one (now one company) has cards available today - are there others that you know of that are trustworthy and available today?
Here’s another that I’ve tried but find it doesn’t work great with unverified services.
1st - Thanks for the quick reply !Curious when you say doesn’t work great with unverified - are you saying many/all of them didn’t accept them?
I’ve had issues with things like real-debrid not accepting gift-cards (ie vanilla gift cards).
Thanks
I used Blur and then Ironvest masked cards and email for the past 7 years before switching recently to cash app to make payments via bitcoin and startmail for masked email. considering using surfshark masked mail to replace startmail, since already paying for surfshark vpn. I liked ironvest service, but did have issues time to time where some iptv wouldn’t accept along with real debrid… which is why I finally took the plunge bitcoin payments.
Thanks for the reply and content. I just checked and Ironvest(/Blur) still not accepting new masked card accounts. I noticed it posted the question and response
"Do Virtual Cards work for international merchants?
Unfortunately, we had to block non-US merchants due to heavy fraud concerns. As it turns out, the majority of transactions placed with non-US merchants using Virtual Cards have been initiated by fraudulent users. Although certain non-US countries are not of particular concern, we’re only able to separate merchants by US and non-US, and are not able to allow specific “safe” countries at this time.
The plan is to allow non-US merchants again within the near future, but we will not be able to do so until we’re confident we won’t see the same negative consequences we were seeing previously."
In my case real-debrid and potentially IPTV services would be my primary need, and until that time Ironvest includes non-US merchants, it eliminates one of my driving reasons for masked card.
I personally have had my one of my bank’s credit cards hacked 5 or 6 times over the last 10 years, while another (Discover) has only been hacked once in same time. Additionally Discover notified me before putting the (hacked) transactions thru.
Per your comment about Startmail, I tried it and ProtonMail but ended up switching to Proton. I learned over time that switching email providers and therefore email addresses is a major pain, so I purchased a custom domain (for family-key differentiator vs Startmail) and Proton is able to set up using it with their family plan. I use custom domain email primarily and can switch email hosting independently in the future, if and when needed. Thanks to Troy along with my own personal experience over many years in deciding on this approach.
I still may decide to try Ironvest virtual cards as it would be an additional layer of protection going forward…
may need to checkout proton mail… ty!
I have been using Proton email and VPN for about 5 years and I am completely satisfied. I created an alias email account using their pm.me feature which masks my actual credentials. I do not currently use a CC masking software altho I am researching different ones capable of using crypto also.
Used ironvest for many years but masked cards are still not active. I use the privacy free plan which allows 12 new masked cards per month and Proton Duo for masked emails. I started using privacy when ironvest stopped mask emails. They have been saying the update is coming soon for a full year now. My experience with Privacy has been very good. I have never needed more than 12 new cards per month and currently have about 25 active masked cards I use regularly. You can make the card merchant specific or one time use with customizable limits. I use a privacy card with my iptv service with no issues. Occasionally, some masked cards are rejected but those are usually well known reputable businesses. In that case, I use bitcoin if I don’t feel comfortable. The proton service is outstanding and allows complete control of the masked email use as well as a password manager and a 2FA for each account if desired and their vpn. The combination of these 2 services has been perfect for me. I won’t go back to ironvest if and when they ever get their act together. Too costly versus what I now use.
rabiddog, thanks for the info on Privacy. I checked out their website and they appear legit. Have you been able to use them on any of the debrid vendors, such as real or premiumze? I know certain US banks have virtual card services they offer for free, but I still prefer to keep things separated from my normal finances. I am a Proton mail user for a few years and have had no issues with regular email or masked ones. Also been using Bitwarden for passwords - a few features made it better for me vs Proton’s tool. Thanks for sharing. Just curious about places it didn’t work.
I know there was a place or two where their card didn’t work but frankly I cannot remember where. I have about 25 active cards that I use regularly, many setup for recurring charges. It works fine with premiumize and my iptv service and many of the apps I use on my android tv apps. I’ve used it for vpn services and many other situations. Very helpful for me.
Thanks for answering those questions. One last one, did you notice any (increase in) spam/phishing emails after signing up?
Did not seem to see any more spam than usual after signing up. Most of my spam seems to be generated from crypto exchanges that I had accessed in the past and other sites I may have foolishly visited. I use masked emails now almost exclusively and disable them if there are issues. Spam is slowly reducing as I use proton mail’s ability to filter and enable me to block them.
Thanks for sharing all that. I’ll likely try them out. I prefer a service separated from my normal banking and they sound legit and with a proper model for making their business lucrative (charging the merchant the fee). Appreciate your quick responses as well
