IPVANISH kill switch

Does ipvanish have a kill switch on the firestick 4k version?
I can not find it.
With vpn safety dot now wanting to charge $2 per month I think I will be switching to a vpn that has a kill switch to stay protected.

Kill Switch – IPVanish
Does IPVanish Have a Kill Switch?
Currently, our macOS, Android Mobile, and Windows client support this feature.

One thing that can be done in the absence of an auto kill switch or Safety Dot.
Go to settings in the IPV app and select ‘automatically connect when android is turned on’.
It does take a couple of minutes, but it has always connected for me so far.

First post for me here.

Just some news that may be of interest for those like me who are uncomfortable without the Safety Dot but happy with IPVanish with no reason to change to Surfshark other than getting a kill switch.

Contacted IPVanish today asking about the availability of a kill switch for the Fire Stick. Kudos to them for responding quickly. Here is their answer:

“This is Vins from the IPVanish Support team!
This will be definitely worked on but we can not say when it will be available.
Rest assured that our dev team is working on it.”

I want to advise anyone reading this post that all of the previous information stating IPvanish does not have a kill switch are false.

IPvanish has a Kill Switch!

Turning on the Kill Switch for (macOS)
To turn on the Kill Switch, you must be disconnected from IPVanish. You can turn on the Kill Switch for macOS by clicking IPVanish at the top of the menu bar (It’s right next to the ), then click on Preferences . Once the Preferences window appears, click on OpenVPN at the top and check the box labeled Kill Switch as shown below: (Note: You must select OpenVPN as the active protocol on the general tab to be able to use the Kill Switch)

Turning on the Kill Switch for (Windows)
To turn on the Kill Switch, you must be disconnected from IPVanish. You can turn on the Kill Switch for Windows, click on the Settings Gear icon on the left, click the Connection tab and toggle the switch labeled Kill Switch as shown below. You can also enable the Block LAN Traffic feature if you want to block all local network traffic (blocking access to local media servers like Plex or a NAS) as well as all internet traffic once you are disconnected from IPVanish.

You can visit their support page to confirm for yourself. IPvanish support page for all things IPvanish

The kill switch is mandatory, and the very reason I picked IPvanish over the other VPN’s.
I have been a fan of their service over three years and counting.

Your welcome

That is on only 2 OSs. Mac and Windows. Is there a kilswitch in the app GUI on any other OSs? Like FireTV or AndroidTV or Stock Android?

IPVanish does not have a kill switch on the Firestick 4K version of their apk.
Not at this time anyway.
But as Wally has posted it looks like they will in the future.
How long will that be is anybody’s guess. :hourglass_flowing_sand:
Stay Safe

i have surfshark and vpnsafetydot. I am not a technician but in the benchmark I tested the kill switch also broke off. with having both i feel safe now. i did not yet buy vpnsafetydot because it looks like the popup is not coming up anymore, but i might when it makes sense to me

The original thread question wasn’t if IPVanish has a kill switch, it was if IPVanish has a kill switch on the Firestick. The answer is no, it doesn’t. I dont think anyone gave false information, we answered the question that was asked. And, my post also answered that it does have it on macOS, android mobile and Windows.

Also, welcome!!!

Hey Everyone - Just in case anyone is not aware, The answer to the question of whether or not IPVanish has a kill switch for FireTV devices, the answer is yes and has been yes for quite some time. We have a standalone kill switch app that you can download via the Amazon app store. If anyone has any questions let us know.

But still don’t have one on Android TVOS

We are working on it. We will be glad when we can bring it to Android TV.

@anon42410638 thank you for your feedback. We designed a separate Kill Switch app for Fire TV because our testing showed it was a more reliable solution.

IPVanish should work with Netflix, we can help get this up and running for you. Please send the specific server locations you’ve tried to management@ipvanish.com so we can assist you further.

@anon42410638 , we’re sorry to hear you’re having trouble with Netflix geo-blocks. Our UK servers should be working fine for Netflix, so let’s figure out what’s happening.

It would be ideal to send us a quick email including which server locations you have tried and the last time you’ve attempted them.

Is a kill switch for Android TVOS coming at all? @IPVanish

Yes, as a matter of fact. Until it’s live in the Google play store here’s a link you can use to download the APK - https://ipvanish-apps.s3.amazonaws.com/software/android/Kill_switch/kill_switch_1.0.121.apk
