IP Vanish v4 slowdown

I have very fast speeds. With IPV off I’m currently at 254/12 I upgraded to IPV 4 and dropped to 65/11.
Just spent a lot of time with tech support and came up with no solutions. I only experienced a “slight” drop with the old version, certainly not 77%+. Installed thought Troypoint Rapid, Firestick HD

I tested it and the very first server I connected to I got 75MBps down using wireguard. I switched servers and it dropped to 35. I then tried the previous server as well as 10 others covering the entire country and never could get better than 27-35 down.

I’m getting 86mbps connected to fastest available tested with defsquid and analiti says 105 Mbps I usually leave it on fastest available unless I start getting slower speeds. Just got post from Troy today didn’t get a chance to look at it yet but supposedly has a part that tells you how to maximize it let you know later

Just switching protocols, the standard sort of configuration testing.

65 is good ebough to stream btw. Just keep testing your settings.

Hello @ericb7234 curious why you need more than 65 Mbps? We see this a lot on this forum…having more speed isn’t going to help stream. As long as you’re getting 20-30 that’s all you need for 4K streaming. Maybe you are trying to download?

Hi Troy: I need fast speeds for the downloads I do for work as everything’s on the same network. Maybe it’s my imagination, but it seems to me that the stronger my signal is the less buffering I get on the Firestick. I’m, aware that you really don’t “need” more than 65 but I still felt that a 77% decrease in speed was unusual, to say the least.
BTW…thanks for all you do. I have learned a lot from you.

Then only use the vpn when streaming turn it off when you ise it for work. Unless you stream and work at the same time.

I was having issues with this as well but I was using the beta. The connect button would t work for me and had to go into settings to change servers . So I rolled it back to the older one. I started a thread about it working on Formuler Z8 that I was having issues with. May still be buggy with some devices.

Hopefully you aren’t seeing those types of slowdowns on your computer when you are using that for work. With Wireguard, I am getting over 500 down. Better processors in computers will definitely help with better download speeds. There will always be a speed problem with the less powerful processors in the streaming devices. Maybe you’re also seeing those bad speeds on computer as well? If so, try rebooting your router, cable modem, and computer and try again.

I had no intention of updating IPV at this time and as per the forum, Amazon was not ready for prime time (WAS, not ready) but I have just checked both my Firestick 4k and Firestick mas (running a launcher) and voila, both were updated to V4. My speeds are not much different than before but I need to use Openvpn to get the best speed now.

I never got more than 40-45 down and I understand this is enough. My real down stream is 500. Of course I had to login again and reset some switches like using the lan as they turned off.

I still go by the old saying, If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it * Putting aside if there are incredible features that you just want. I was quite happy to leave IPV alone.

Is anybody else noticing that it slows down your firestick as well? New version uses 500k cache compared to the low cache on the old version

I have noticed the same drop with the upgrade to v4……any way to roll it back?

My IPV updated yesterday and at best was getting 40 down. Whereas before the update I would routinely get in the upper 60’s to 80’s. I’ve not been real pleased with the update. In the last version I was able to select what server to use. Now I don’t find that option with theupdate. I’ve found in the past that using the “fastest available” option wasn’t always the fastest available. I’ve always used Analiti to check speeds and selected the server based on the results.

I’m really disappointed at this point but I have 3 or 4 more months left with IPV.

The option is still there thankfully when you click on the city that you want to connect to. You will see the servers as before and get to choose the one with the least load. I think this new version although cosmetically nice is not very intuitive and makes us search for things we more easily found before.

I had the same situation, my speed dropped by 50%. I went through Troys very informative video and tried all options however most of them reduced the speed even further. Until I changed the country that I am based in and low and behold my speed is now the same as delivered by my internet provider. BTW, as in the previous version of IPVanish I have not been able to find the program logo in my apps on the fire stick and have to launch the program via apps, manage installed apps which is really a pain, any ideas please ??

Probably all the animations they implemented in this new version. The globe spinning etc. the beta didn’t work for me so not sure if this release is the same.

Go back into google store and turn off auto updates for ipv. You have to find it in the store and look for the dots on the right side . Delete the version you have and install the one you need that’s what I did.
