I have a strange problem. I added Surfshark to 2 computers. I started having problems so I removed the software from both.
I now check my ip address and 1 computer is showing I am in La Calif the other one a town in Ohio which is no where near me.
I noticed they both show Spectrum which is my cable internet provider. though.
Why would this happen after removing Surfshark from both of them?
When I had IPvanish when I disconnected it my real ip always showed up. This is even happening on my Max 4K firestick, Surfshark disconnected it shows Ohio not my real ip like it used to show or should show.
Is my ip doing something or is the sw doing it What is everyone opinion? I know some of you guys have a opinion that I trust.
I just logged into my cable provider to do a speed test. Even there it is showing the
LA Calif ip and my download speed was just 50
I have their 400 ,for some reason with no vpn even installed it is showing LA Calif ip still. All I did was remove Surfshark and the greendot sw. This makes no sense. Surfshark has screw up my whole internet connection ,computers, firestick, appleTv and onn
This is just great.Everything I have is showing the Los Angeles and Ohio ip and with out a vpn running. Yes I reset all my devices too.
So either Surfshark and or the stupid green dot sw has screwed everything up.
The greendot was the last thing I removed on my streaming devices that I had it on. Everything went nuts after that it seems,so it’s one or the other or both pieces of sw. There is no other reason for this.
Until now I have never had any problems to speak of at all.
I am holding off on buying ipvanish again until I talk to my cable provider Monday and go from there
Thank you,I been thinking the same thing.
I am buying ipvanish again. I’ll have 2 VPN. I’ll see what happens with IPV this time.I have several devices so I’ll try both on different devices. I’ll know by later tonight.
I never got surfshark working on linux but IPvanish was very easy to get running on my linux computers. just saying
Every single time I disconnected from it My real ip showed up. It don’t now on any device. Not too hard to figure out is it?
Have you completely uninstalled you VPN? Check your app management.
Also, I would unplug your devices ( streaming, modem, and routers) for about 10 minutes and then plug them all back in and maybe they will reset. Plug in your modem first, then router, and lastly your streaming devices.
Also, if this is happening on your computer and you can take out the battery that might reset also. If you can’t take out the battery. Unplug it and let your battery run out. Then plug it back in.
Thanks for your help I have reset and tried everything.modem and router and all devices. I did notice my Apple 4k is ok my download on it was 448 mbps it has never had a vpn installed on it. Or a greendot lol
My problem is all my streaming devices and computers. After I reset the computers and streaming devices, firestick 2 of them and a onn they all show los Angeles now ,don’t show Ohio anymore. now that strange…Ohio just left …
My download on the computers and streaming sticks with no vpn on is just 50 mbps should b around 400 usually without any vpn installed.
I don’t know what else to do. I am now having problems logging on to amazon with my computers they now want me to type a code then login and cc’s now send me a code to even login to 2 of them. Google won’t even load sometimes because i am using a vpn it says at times.
I have never ran into a mess like this. Like I said i uninstalled Surfshark and the last app I uninstalled was the greendot then the problems started.
I may do a total reset on my 4K Max again and reinstall the apps I use. I have a new 4K Max still in the unopened box it came it, but i am thinking it is going to do the same thing.
If I can’t fix this BS I may just throw the firesticks and onn sticks in the closet and just watch My Apple 4K box at least it is the only device that works fine. I have 5 new onn’s 4- 4k sticks unopened still in the box. May try one of them and see what happens instead of opening the new 4K Max so I won’t have it mess up.
Last resort is call the cable Co Monday and see what they tell me to do if anything lol.
I do have access to a faster internet service which is cheaper than Spectrum. I just didn’t switch when the power co here put in their new fiber system because i was ok with my cable till now. Even though I am pretty sure its not the cable but this software. I am leaning toward the greendot BS but who knows. its one of the 2 pieces of software i bet that. Nothing else makes sense
I think i may still have time to ask Surfshark for a refund even.
Yes I have totally uninstalled the vpn ,the problem remains then I reinstalled it on 2 different sticks again ,it works fine but when I disconnect it’s still the LA ip which remains.
Same thing on 2 computers same problem.
Makes no sense all was working fine till the stupid green dot bs then i uninstalled the vpn afterwards. Rebooted everything reinstalled the vpn same problem?? dunno
Not at all. If it wan there looks like my AppleTv 4k would be messed up too because it’s on the same router and modem and it works fine and is running fast like my other devices were till this happened.
I can’t prove anything but it’s strange this all happened when I removed the green dot sw.(I did remove it and reinstall it a few times before i finally stopped using it at all.
Matter of fact it would not run unless i pd for it i thought that was strange too because i see that some are still using it without buying it .maybe some kind of glitch on my end, I suppose anything is possible.
It could be something simple that i did or missed doing too.
That might have done something dunno) then the Surfshark which i really don’t think Surfshark caused this at all
it’s just kinda like seeing bigfoot and no one believes you lol
Well it aint the end of the world anyway I still have plenty to watch without any VPN far as that goes. Maybe it might start working as fast as it messed up .
Very strange indeed. Ive used surfshark a long time and can switch in and out easy without issues. As for the green dot I have no idea, dont use it. You could go into your router setting and try releasing the ip and refreshing it in the wan settings.
The "green dot has absolutely nothing to do with your ip address. It is just an overlay indicator showing your vpn is active or not.
I would first uninstall you vpn app. Then unplug your modem, router, and devices for at least 10+ full minutes. The long wait in time is necessary for your modem to fully and completely reset.
Then plug everything back in and bootup and check.
I have done all what you suggest several times didn’t help.
I spent a couple hours lastnight and it looks like my isp has changed my static ip address even though it shows I am in Ohio. I clicked the my ip button on the page I was using to check my ip and it then showed a 2nd location which is exactly the town I live in.
I have never seen that before for 4 years it always showed Mayfield Ky
now ohio and I found my location down to the lat and long. I know that right because I use lat and long for the seismographs I am running.
So my provider has changed to ohio but it then shows lexington,ky then my real location.
Opinions please ?
Strange but true, Thanks to everyone for the options ppl suggested.
Actually this is normal for an isp to do. They route traffic to reduce server load and its usually a built in automatic response. For instance my ip has shown to route houston to newyork and other days dallas to newyork. Out of my control but I have a very stable connection. In your case if the speeds are lower than they were I would be in contact with them about the issue and pray you get someone who has an idea oabout the issue and not an idiot techie wantabe … I believe surfshark and the green dot are not related to your issue.
I now agree with you something has changed in my router and or modem.
I forgot to say earlier but I hooked up a new onn stick with no vpn at all on it.Just a couple free apps to see what it showed. It shows the same thing. It may well be something simple i dunno. All i did in the router is change the password because when I reset it went back to the password that was in it at the 1st time of install, I put the old password all my devices now use and have used for the past 4 years.
So maybe a phone call will fix it like you suggested.
Thank you and everyone for the replies.
If I find out what is going on i’ll post the results
Reboot your modem first when your modem is done do the router and when the router have finish reboot, go in the cmd on your PC and type de release and the renew ip command. ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew… Take a look if it’s ok after with ipconfig /all…
Well you can’t get much help from a cable co about your internet ip except all looks fine on their end with my connection.
I have reset/rebooted all devices and I now have my regular speed back on my devices when my VPN is turned off but still have different ip locations on 2 different computers on the same router plus my streaming devices.
I am going to add a new firestick and unplug the one I am using and see. The cable tech guy did say it sounds like my stuff is hacked by someone and change all my passwords ,i said ok thank you have a nice day. bye
